(Option 1: 7th semester grades has not shown up

so for the people with option 1, do we have a higher chance since we weren’t asked for the 7th sem grades?

im taking 4 AP’s senior year, so whats the likelihood that they would wait to make a decision after they’ve seen my fall grades? (i got all B’s in my 3 APs i took as a junior).

and if im gettin about 2 B’s and 2 C’s in those AP’s, and about a 3.2 fall semester gpa, what are my chances of getting in?

psp-fifa-fan - no, nothing on WA

I’m curious for people who have the second letter (if it does exist) can you post what it says.

I’m probably going to scan and upload option one sometime today

uofm33: Thats what we’re trying to figure out, by comparing the stats of the two groups, we can figure out if one is “better” or not. If your Fall grades are significantly lower, that would probably impact your chances.

Here is a scanned copy of the letter I received:

Dear _____:

Thank you for your application to the University of Michigan College of Engineering for Fall 2009. After an individualized and comprehensive evaluation, your application has been deferred for a final decision until a later date. Your application will be re-evaluated on a regular basis, and a final decision will be made based on how your credentials and academic achievements contribute to the composition and quality of this year’s freshman applicant pool.

We believe that you have something uniquely valuable to contribute to our campus; however, we expect to receive more than 30,000 applications from first-year applicants for a class of about 5,700. This requires a very selective process to manage our enrollment. All final admissions decisions of admit, deny, or waitlist will be made no later than mid-April, 2009. If a final decision has not been made on your application prior to completion of your fall semester, please ask your high school counselor to forward your new grades when they become available. Strong fall semester grades may enhance your status in the deferred pool of applicants.

Please refer to the website [Office of Undergraduate Admissions: FAQs about the Admissions Process for Deferred Students](http://www.admissions.umich.edu/deferred) for FAQ’s about the admission process and what to do next. We hope your interest in Michigan continues, and you have our best wishes for an enjoyable and successful senior year.

Sincerely,

"Thank you for your application to the University of Michigan. After an initial individualized and comprehensive review of your application, we find that we will need additional information in order to make a decision.

The quality of grades earned in academic courses is one of several factors taken into consideration in evaluating a student’s admissibility. To give your application a fair evaluation, we will need your fall semester grades. Because it is important that we receive these grades as soon as possible, it is your responsibility to ask your high school counselor to fax a report of your fall semester grades to our office at 734.936.0740.

We appreciate your interest in the University of Michigan and look forward to receiving the information requested. We will notify you of a final decision on your application by mid-April. Please do not hesitate to contact me, or to have your high school counselor call me, if you have any questions or concerns regarding your application. Your U-M ID is ######## and should be included on any materials you submit to or any communications you have with our office."

i think that the people from letter 2 have just a little lower gpa? so I guess they just want to see if they will be able to maintain/raise their grades senior year.

and i guess people with letter 1 arent good enough to be accepted immediately, so theyre waiting to compare them with the regular decision applicant pool.
