I got deferred as well.

I’ll send the Midyear Report sometime soon, but as for adding something new in my life (in this case, work experience), do I just mail a letter detailing what’s new?

“The Midyear Report also includes an opportunity for you to update us on anything important that has occurred since you submitted your application. Using the Midyear Report for such updates is preferred over mailed updates.”

Found this on the site…I guess the Report has space for additions. That makes more sense. I didn’t realize that, and at first I thought it was just for grades.

another QB finalist here :]

deferred as well ahahaha…

I’ve been deferred.

To make myself feel better, I am laughing at 1201/21% rejected. Even though it’s quite horrible of me.

But really, what can be done, besides move onwards?

I was deferred too. But I’m oddly stoked about it. I wasn’t rejected! And it gives me a chance to up a score or two and send another rec, yay. I’m actually kind of glad for the deferral. I didn’t expect to be excited about it haha

yeah, I’m just happy that I’m not rejected…but still a little sad, because I just got deferred from UChicago, and now feel I don’t have a chance anywhere else RD…:(

Same here, anamai.

First off, I was deferred as well.

However, the “Acing the College Application” book suggests calling the admissions office to ask about your application, and have your counselor do the same. This, the book argues, ensures that the institution has not missed any material while finding more reason behind your deferral. Do you guys think that this advice is sound, and will actually help your chances? I know that MIT shows you a record of what it has received, but I had sent an extra recommendation (from a summer program) that I’m not sure if they received or not.

Should I take up this advice?
Thanks!

heinochus, what other schools are you applying to/have applied to?

Now that I’m deferred at both, I don’t know if I should still aim high…I have been accepted to 2 other colleges…but they are not my 1st choice…

anyone know when we should send in additional rec letters by?

Well you send the midyear report in like February, so I’d guess around then. I’m sending mine next week.

No. MIT will not give you “the reason” for your deferral, because there isn’t one. Calling the admissions office, by itself, will not improve your chances of being admitted RD.

Mid-January would be best.
