Deferment of Banneker Scholarship

<p>My son has been awarded a full Banneker/key scholarship at the University of Maryland. However we are thinking about a gap year. Does anybody know if that would risk losing the scholarship? Would there be approved programs that would allow him to keep the scholarship?</p>
