<p>really? i always thought my location was a SLIGHT edge, but TBH i think my background/experiences/interests helped me more. the dakotas, montana, idaho, wyoming and the like seem like more hookish states. there were applicants with stats similar to mine from more well-represented states accepted too, though.</p>
<p>i would kinda agree about the california/new york thing. it’s probably harder, from the people i know on the coasts.</p>
<p>While they may tell you they won’t accept more essays in general, they will read an updated essay you send them (if you were deferred EA) if they are debating over your application, as a committee, toward the end of the RD round.</p>
<p>NYC is damn hard. The top-tier privates went about 25% this year SCEA (yes, that sounds like a lot, but keep in mind that these schools send ~40% of students to the Ivies + Stanford/MIT).</p>
