Deferral action plan. If only I could find my regional rep’s address, which is not posted on Yale’s website.

Apply to other colleges

Mope and mope some more

Meet with guidance counselor for realistic evaluation of chances at other colleges

Have guidance counselor explain a glaring error on my EA app

Write to regional adcom sometime to reaffirm love for Yale/Have guidance counselor do it for me

Send in an additional recommendation from outside advisor: he advised me on a project since the beginning of last year and I just recently won an award for it

Wait dejectedly until April for some happy news.

Is the reaffirming thing too much? I’m just afraid that they won’t bother to look at my app again unless I poke them with something.

Feel free to add your plans.

Um, well so far the only things I'm doing for certain is sending them my new SAT scores (should go up) and my new GPA and class rank (also going up). I also led our NHS (as pres.) in a fundraiser that got $5,000 for autism research. How would I inform them of this?

I would call up your interviewer and ask them what they think you should do. they will probably refer you to someone on the admissions staff who you can contact. as a current yalie who was deferred EA last year, I would HIGHLY recommend sending a letter to yale in January or February saying, essentially, "hey look how much more fantastic I've been for the last two months - I got these awards, did this community service, did such and such in such and such an athletic competition, got such and such an average this quarter, got such and such on a music competition, performed in this... blah blah blah."

anyways, it worked for me. I know probably 30 people here who got in after being deferred and even a few who got in after being waitlisted RD so it definitely happens. but you have to MAKE THEM WANT YOU. good luck.

My main question for us deffered is this - is it better to send in MORE good stuff or not? I don't want my application to seem cluttered, but I think that my art supplement was my highlight. If I created more artwork, should I send them an updated version of my art or just let the midyear report speak?

Don't send more of the same, that would be redundant...if you already submitted artwork, sending even more won't do anything for you.

Hey! I remember you. I was deferred as well...

I don't think that you should send more art stuff, because you have already sent some and you don't want the admissions people to dislike the fact taht you've sent too much stuff...

Question: Could I revise/change my essays at this point?

I've been wondering that too, but I sincerely doubt you can.

Which is really too bad, because if you're supposed to correct that one thing that kept you out early in order to get in, and that one thing might happen to be a weak college essay (as it was for me), you should be able to fix it just as those with low SAT scores/grades can fix that aspect of their application.
