So I apparently received the "good" deferral letter which did not specifically ask for mid-year transcripts. I'm obviously planning on sending my mid-year transcripts, but I was wondering if anyone knows when I might hear back from Michigan. Is there any possibility of hearing back before my transcripts have been sent, as they were not asked for? I think I have a fairly good shot of getting in. I am out of state but my GPA is a 4.4 weighted and I received a 35 on my ACT along with 4 years on my high school lacrosse team and tutoring up to 9 hours a week. I could certainly use more community service but I am in the process of starting a non-profit for free tutoring of Foster kids. I was also a Questbridge College Prep scholar if that helps at all. I believe I was deferred because of my major (Aerospace Engineering), which is very selective at UMich.

Off topic, but I do not think this whole “good” deferral letter is true. In fact, its total BS. A college wouldn’t give you insight like that. It’s a deferral letter, nothing more.

@cupuzz I agree however at the same time, some letters asked for semester grades and some didn’t. Plus why else would they have 3 different letters? Its rather confusing

My son got the deferral letter asking for grades and was ultimately accepted to LSA last March, so I don’t think the letter type matters. You appear to have strong credentials but as you point out, getting into the Engineering program is definitely tougher. High school classmates of my son, who are at Michigan in the Engineering program now, have similar credentials to yours and were accepted…it just depends on the applicant pool. Best of luck to you and hope you get in.

@sportsmom Thank you very much! At my high school many kids with similar and slightly lower credentials got into LSA and other engineering departments, so that’s why it could have been my aerospace application. Or just luck of the draw! I’m just hoping for the best :)
