Hi, I was deferred EA, and I'm trying to figure out a plan of action for better results in the spring. I have a couple problems though. I already sent in an extra rec with my EA application, so I'm scared to send in another one. My grades are going down (AP French is really hard!), and I don't think I will have much to say in an update letter. What do I do???

My sympathies....I'm taking multivariable calculus and it's NOT going well at all...and I already sent in a rec from a scientist I worked with...I still think I'm going to send in another rec, though, from a teacher who's taught me for years and who writes in a very entertaining fashion. I'm pretty sure it will be a very good addition to my app, regardless of what I've already sent them.

EDIT: whoops, forgot to mention that I'm also deferred.

So the new rec will be rec number 4?

Yup. I figure I'll probably get rejected RD like everyone else at this point, so I've got nothing to lose.

Good logic. :) Has anyone sent in extra recs and been accepted already this year? If so, can you say how many total recs you used? Thanks.

Ok here's what you DEFINiTELY need to do:

Send in something, but in that letter make sure you write something along the lines of "I'd like to reiterate that Yale is my number one choice, and should I be accepted I will matriculate"

French AP IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HARD! I FEEL YOUR PAIN. :( Send them updates of stuff you've won, etc....

I'll definately write a letter, but honestly, I don't know if I would go to Yale even if I were accepted. Obviously it's a great school, and I would love it there, but I don't feel ready to make a decision yet. It's tied with Brown as my number one choice. That's why I applied EA. I wasn't ready to commit to any school, so I didn't apply ED to Brown because that would be binding. I figured I had nothing to lose by applying EA to Yale (except for a better shot at getting into Brown - whatever). So, when I write this letter, can't I just say that Yale is my first choice, and leave out the part about matriculating?

Absolutely. You don't have to say that you will matriculate if accepted....saying that Yale is your first choice is definitely enough.
