I got deferred from OSU a week ago and I was wondering if anybody knew the chance of getting in?

I would really appreciate it, I only applied to two schools. I got into the other one but OSU is my #1 choice and not knowing if I got in or not is killing me.

What are you doing about your deferral. I just got deferred today and am really upset because OSU was my safety school. They told me in November that I would get my decision today, but I expected to be accepted. I only sent them a 29 ACT and no SAT IIs. I have a 31 ACT and 760/650 SAT IIs. Should I send the rest of the scores?

bmburr, my advice to you would be to send in a statement or something like that and talk about why you would want to go to OSU… even if you have to BS the whole thing…

big schools will reject or in your case defer kids whom they believe are simply using their school as a “safety” just because they dont like it…

so like i said before, send something in about why you want to go to OSU and why you would be a good fit… you can send your scores in if you want but they wont be a huge impact on their descision…

I really doubt that big state schools like OSU would do that if one is applying in-state unless there is a clear lack of interest in essays or other answers.

I got deferred in January and they told me I would hear sometime in March. So i am just waiting until they tell me, I don’t really know what else to do.

My application was also deferred from osu and I was really upset. I’m counting down the days for March to be over so that I can just know what’s going on. I had a 25 on my ACT, and 3.97 GPA plus a ton of leadership positions. I’m really hoping to still get in. But if my application does get denied or whatever can i still go to a different campus?

Checked my daughter’s status at 4:30pm today and was still deferred. She checked about 8:00pm and found out she was admitted. Hopefully the dam has burst and everyone will start to hear their status.

Actually, they are doing it for the rankings. People whose stats say they are applying to OSU as a safety are less likely to accept an offer of admission. One of the important college ranking factors is how many of the high-calibre admitted students accept their offer of admission. One way of improving this percentage is not offering admission to people who seem like OSU is on obvious safety for them, but I could only understand this if they were out of state.

Also, for the record, I am an out-of-state student who got accepted with a 3.0, so maybe the fact that I am paying more for the same space as an Ohio resident has something to do with it.

My son’s HS counselor said that if students are applying to out-of-state state universities, they should apply as early as possible. I think my son got his OOS apps done by late September.

I got deferred initially but two days ago notified of acceptance. 30ACT, 3 APs (5,5,4), 3.1 HS gpa but from top 0.5% difficult HS, 37 hours of college work finished with 3.75 gpa and national sports medal. Yeah, go bucks!
