okay.. i see there are different kinds of deferred letters.
I am kinda curious what differences are.
SAT1: 2000(610/740/650) >> SUPERSCORED: 2070(620/800/650)
TOEFL: 104
SAT2: USHIS 630, korean 800, math1c 700
APGOV: US GOV3
GPA: 3.97

First of all, in my case,
I am not asked for 7th semester grade, (which kinda freaked me out)
and I applied to ROSS and LSA. (ROSS.. I know....bump ;p)

and the letter I got is:

Thank you for your application to the university of michgan college of literature, science, and the arts for Fall 2010. We are pleased that you have applied and are impressed with your achievements. However, our high application volume, coupled with the very strong credentials of our applicants in recent years, has contributed to an increasingly competitive admissions process. As a result, we are writing to inform you that your application is currently being deferred for further review.

While this is not the answer that you were hoping to hear, it is still good news. your application is one of a group that remains under consideration. All final admissions decisions of admit, deny, or waitlisted will be made no later than mid-April, 2010.

Please refer to the website Office of Undergraduate Admissions: FAQs about the Admissions Process for Deferred Students for FAQ's about the admission process and what to do next. strong fall semester ore second trimester grades may improve your status in the deferred pool of applicants. therefore, please ask your high school counselor to forward your fall semester or second trimester grades when they become available.

Because you are in this select group, we hope our interest in michigan continues, and we will keep you informed of our progress. You have our best wishes for an enjoyable and successful end of your senior year.

this is the good one. i don’t know what the other one is, but this one says you are still under consideration (which is good). i’m still waiting for my deferral letter because i know i’m gonna get deferred haha

Yeah sounds like you received the good one, I have mines placed with all my other college mail which I can type later ( once I gete it) so you can see the differences of your own.

Here is my deferrel letter, according to last year they release out mutliple different letters. Found some even similar just a few different sentences.

My deferrel letter seems to stress the emphasis on how important my 7th semester grades will be towards decision ( that is if I’m not a deferrel rejection- they don’t reject ER). So far my I know my semester grades will not be the 4.0 for the school to at least give some consideration. Geez, thanks to Ap Calculus and Ap English. I’m definately getting nervous that I haven’t heard from my other schools and I still have more to apply to which I have not submitted my application. Even more nervous knowing that UMich is my only in-state school ( and all the rest of my applications will/ are reaches), note I’am need base aid… ouch.

I don’t know what to do right now, any advice?

Coolbrezze, you asked for advice, so here you go: it is very unusual for a Michigan resident who has financial need to only apply to one in state school. If you don’t get UMich, do you have a school you can definitely afford to go to? If your out of state schools do not meet full need of OOS students then even if you get in, you may be left in the lurch. Michigan residents are so fortunate to have a wide array of schools available, and you are not taking advantage of that. You should apply to MSU, to Western, to Northern, to Oakland University, maybe Central too. You don’t have to go to any of them, but when all is said and done, the idea is to have choices available to you in April. What happens if you don’t get sufficient financial aid at your out of state schools, and you don’t get in to Michigan (hopefully not but just saying), you’re going to end up at a Community College, and wish you had sent in those applications.

^
Lol, ofcourse I wouldn’t end up at a community college. Thanks, because I’am asking for advice. Uh, well…thats why I’m looking for schools that where if I get accepted it will be affordable. University of Michigan considering its no longer my top choice and I was deferred is not that much in the picture for me right now, as it appears I will be going out of state and will be taking out loans ( ouch). Again, this is why I’m really nervous since I’m closing in on my college applications ( deadlines are near) and need great suggestions as soon as possible.

It depends on what you want to study, CB, but try Grand Valley and Michigan State as comparative safeties. Know lots of kids happy at both. And Michigan State has a generous tuition program for those with the greatest need. Way more than need nets you at U of M. Tuition at Grand Valley is very reasonable as well, and for admission rigor, it’s neck and neck with MSU. Both are well regarded regionally, and both would offer a sufficient transfer platform should you not end up at U of Mich as a freshman but want to continue trying.

Kmccrindle is so right. I forgot to mention Grand Valley. It is a great school, with a lot of opportuniies for high level work. You would be well advised to apply there.

I believe the i got the good defferal letter, saying im under consideration, but doesnt mention 7th semester grades. Doeswriting a letter to the school ever help?
