I believe my application was strong - my only weak points were the fact that I didn't write the optional essay (yes.. I'm still kicking myself.. very hard), my math SAT (lol 600), and my freshman year grades (Bs and one or two Cs not one A. Soph year I had straight As - TREND!).

This year I'm taking five APs, and I've got As and one B+ in all of them so far.

What I'm asking is how much Chicago weighs that freshman year. Will this trend be to my advantage during the RD round? What about submitting the optional essay (and have it be amazing!)?

Also, for all of us deferees, how nervous are you about the RD applicant pool? I must say - I'm already breaking a sweat over it.

Yeah, but I was just going to send my letter of continued interest, a summary of this thing I started at school, and my extra essay together via snail mail.

Oh wait. By optional essay, you mean the one about poems, authors, film, etc? I didn't do that one and I got in EA. I thought you meant you didn't do the Chicago supplement or something, haha.

Weird, I didn't interview and I didn't do the optional essay and I still made it. =/

I don't think UChicago will be likely to reject someone simply for not writing an OPTIONAL essay or for not going for an on-campus interview when the person lives far from Chicago.
