Deferred Applicant asks for advice

Hi there, I was wondering if you would please chance me for NU with my senior grades. I applied EA and was deferred. Before senior year, my weighted GPA was a 4.08/4 , about an A- to an A average. I took all honors courses (except for regular math up until senior year). I got straight A’s junior year, including 3 honors (history, english, and spanish), one AP (Environmental Science) and the standard pre-calc class. This year, I have an A- in AP Lit, an A in AP Spanish, an A+ in AP Euro, an A+ in regular physics, and a B+ in AP stats. Do you think I have a chance for an International Business major at NU? Please give me some advice, it is very much appreciated! I have worked hard this first semester and hope these grades better my chances.

Thanks so much! :frowning:

SAT or ACT?

We can’t help you without standardized testing scores. Many applicants that were otherwise strong but did not have near-perfect (33+ ACT) scores were deferred unexpectedly. Most importantly, what do YOU think was the reason you were deferred?
Also, no need to bump right after posting.

what do you mean bump after posting? I took the SAT-1990

Your test score was probably why you were deferred. The rest of your application looks good - you have a shot for sure, but don’t put all your bets on acceptance. 50/50 probably. Good luck!

ok thanks! My GPA went up too to a 4.2, idk if that helps

Northeastern is hellbent on gaming the rankings to rise up. That requires it to put emphasis on high SAT/ACT scores.

@lana22 Because of the lowish (for NEU) SAT score, you may get accepted, but without merit aid. Not sure if that is a factor for you, but don’t count on getting merit. Not sure what the lowish SAT score affect is on FA, or even if you need it.

@GMTplus7 If by gaming the system you mean admitting students who are likely to succeed and eventually graduate then bravo for Northeastern. In addition to rising in the rankings Northeastern has also raised its retention rate to 96% and 6 year graduation rate to 84%.

i don’t think my SAT score is going to kill me. My grades have definitely been as best as they can be for senior year. Thanks for the help
