Essays:

1: Why are you here and not somewhere else? Wrote about how I was the sperm that won and ended it on a philosophical note

2: Why UChicago? Loved this one, talked about my encounter w an Econ Student on a campus visit, our chat, and how he let me sit in on a PhD Class

Optional: Wrote about my connection with the Lion King

Interview: On Campus, interviewer said "I don't ask many applicants this, but you seem very fit to answer: Why do you think Uchicago aligns with your future goals?" Loved the answer and said I seem to know how and why UChicago fits me

Sorry for the rambling, I know that UChicago is infamous for deferring a ton of people early, and it would suck to be deferred again.

Thank you!

Very good chance, in my opinion. Don’t ask me to quantify “very good chance”! :)

Thank you! @kaukauna‌

Chicago has higher SATs than MIT and will probably have a lower acceptance rate as well. MIT actually had a 5% dip in EA applications this year, so while Chicago is getting harder to get into, MIT is going the opposite direction. So don’t let anyone tell you that you have better chances of getting into Chicago than MIT, because that’s patently (and laughably) false.

Since both schools are extremely difficult to get into, it comes down to “soft measures” for either university. You have the stats to get into both MIT and Chicago, so at this point, you have to convince the admissions committees that you would be a good admit. That means excellent essays, and in that regard, nobody here can tell you your chances of getting in.

One thing that might ease your mind a little is how arbitrary the admissions process is nowadays. Many people get accepted at 1 elite school and get rejected everywhere else. For instance, many people get into Harvard, only to be rejected by all of the other super-elites. For all purposes, admissions at elite schools should be viewed as independent of each other; that is, a deferral/rejection from one school rarely says anything about your admissions chances at another school. So even though Chicago is equally difficult to get into as MIT, a deferral from MIT doesn’t mean your chances are poor for Chicago.

Thank you for that information @phuriku‌
I guess we’ll just have to see what happens
Thanks!

I’m not sure how to compare MIT and Chicago. Look at the stats - MIT got 6800 EA apps last year, and accepted some 600 (roughly a 10% acceptance rate). Chicago got roughly 12000 EA apps and accepted some 12%. The EA acceptance rate was lower for MIT than Chicago. But the applicant pool is also very different. Chicago draws a whole bunch of liberal arts students than MIT. And, conversely, MIT must be drawing hard-core tech geeks with corresponding achievements. Just looking at SAT as a measure of which school is tougher is not right. On the whole, for students who do fit and have decent credentials, it’s a crap-shoot at either school.

I JUST WANTED TO SAY I FEEL YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU. I got deferred too from MIT, awaiting UChic. If we both get in, it would be REALLY awesome :)

@sofritachipotle‌ haha nice to know someone is in the same boat as you  hopefully we both get in on Wednesday!

@ijustwantsuccess; I feel like if we end up both going there, we’ll be sharing a lot of the same mentality.
BTW; UChic’s freak-out board: <a href=“UChicago EA Applicants 2019 - #1126 by JK0919 - University of Chicago - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-chicago/1707026-uchicago-ea-applicants-2019-p76.html</a></p>

I’m in the exact same boat! I was not exactly thrilled to be differed from MIT, but getting deferred from Chicago is (in some ways) worse because it means I have to spend my Christmas finishing 8 more applications.

I guess a lot of people are on this boat lol

Yeah, and it doesn’t help that I’m from New Jersey, so I’m more likely to be deferred/rejected than anyone else

Deferred aka blanket rejection
