The more that withdraw because they might be afraid of the chance of the ultimate rejection, the better the odds for those that hang in there and try to remain optimistic. :)

I updated my regional admissions officer a while ago after my deferral and got no response back. Does this mean anything in particular as I put a lot of effort into the update which included an updated resume, a very Hirt essay and an additional rec letter

Mandatory: Maybe you could send it again, to another regional officer?
Mine responded after I sent updated grades.

I’m sending an updated letter along with a rec. letter from my employer this week. What about everyone else?

I just sent in my letter to my regional rep and my extra rec letter today. Is it too late?

cornells website asked that applicants not send in any more info—after feb l5 they werent going to look at it; said they wanted to concentrate on reading application files from now on!

@danders617: I doubt it’s too late. Just make sure you get receipt confirmation from whoever you sent it to in admissions.

@sleepdeficiet: I appreciate your concern and advice but I don’t want to seem overly bOthersome so I guess I’ll just let it slide or perhaps I’ll just fax a copy to the admissions office later

I didn’t send in another rec letter, because I think 4 letters plus a guidance counselor letter would have been too many.

Does anyone know of any students withdrawing their application after being deferred?

Nope, didn’t hear anything about it. Don’t think the number would be too high anyway… If they applied ED then they wouldn’t really withdraw their application?

Yes a student could apply ED 2 to a number of schools, get accepted there and then withdraw from Duke application pool

@duke333 - Thanks. That makes more sense to me now.

The wait is killing me!

Do defered applicants have a have at scholarships? I’m saying this cause my app improved a hell of a lot from
Ed to rd- my final academic results were stronger than last years Robertson scholars…

I definitely remember some of y’all’s usernames from December. Good luck everyone. Hopefully we are are all still standing at the end of this next rodeo.

When will we get the decision? Mid April?

Good luck everyone! :)

Decisions will be released on March 29

chocoholic, where did you hear/read this?

My daughter seems to be alright with her in-state school (got accepted, pretty good scholarship offer), just in case the ED deferral doesn’t result in an acceptance. Likes them both (the in-state and Duke) about the same. She’s got a good poker-face, so I’m not really sure which one is truly on top.

Me, I think I like Duke better. It’s further away by about 7 hours (the instate is only a couple hour drive), but something about the campus and such I think is what makes me lean more to Duke. Well, that, and seeing I have a daughter I really like that living on campus the first 3 years part. :)

There’s always applying for transfer to Duke after freshman year in-state, if need be. That, or graduate school. That can be done down the road later on, as long as its not an outright rejection that gets received this year, right?

Does the acceptance letter, if you get one, also indicate financial aid such as Pell and other grants?

Duke will send an email with the official date! Nothing has been officially announced yet though.

Best of luck to all of us deferred applicants. I bet some of us will get in, some won’t, but as I said earlier, Duke kept us from the ED rejection pile for a reason. All of us will be getting into great schools that most of our classmates only wish they could go to. Even if Duke doesn’t show me the love a week from today, I know I’ll be perfectly fine with going to USC, where they’ve even offered me a nice merit scholarship.
