Deferred at BC, what does that mean?

I got this letter today that bla bla bla you will be considered among the whole pool of applicants bla bla bla. So I assume that they skimmed through my application, said: “psshh yea right” and threw it in the pile of other unaccepted applications.
How much is EA harder than regular admission in BC, and what are my realistic chances if I rank top 15 - 20% in a very competitive public school in Framingham, like 86 avg. in all honors and AP classes, 1510 on SATs (800 math) and 730 writing, and I’m an immigrant to the United States because i came from Russia in 1998?

You already received your Boston College response?

yes i did, but i live near boston.

Do you have any good ECs?

Know lots of folks last year deferred early decision who are happy freshmen at those schools now-they had their guidance counselor call and add info, wrote a letter asking for what new info would be helpful,e-mailed, sent more data, spoke with their alumni interviewer(if you had a great interview that is) and got her to advocate. Good luck. In this one case they thought this 1500 plus all A , every AP available student did not have enough community service with all her leadership and, varsity sports and other various activities. She then went into great details about the volunteer aspects of these various organizations and it was a huge amount that was not initially evident to the rep. Be pro-active and best of luck to you!!!!

Wow, and I thought that a 1510 would be a plane ticket to all colleges except like HYPMSC.
P.S. It's early ACTION, not early decision

Oh yea, and is it possible to get rejected if you applied EA?

Yes, it is.

OMG R U KIDDIN ME.......my stats are much worse than urs and i applied EA......

now im scared! i didnt even check my mail for the past 2 days.....

as someone else that applied early action to BC with stats much lower than that i can only pray that you have a criminal record or something

Actually, I don't have a criminal record, and i filled out the application and all its parts pretty carefully. Therefore I don't know what could have turned them off about me.

hey, quick question Vladmir, if you go to your financial aid page.... www.bc.edu/finaidapp .....will it show up for you?

It does show up but i dont have SSN though

hey it shows up for me. does that mean anything?

not sure...

ah damn I got deferred too. Eh whatever, there's always regular and the 8 other apps i need to send out next weekend :) fun fun.

I'd suggest that folks who were rejected or deferred read this string in the parents forum .... it tracks kids from last year who were deferred or rejected from their EA/ED school ... where did they eventually end up and are they happy with outcome?

Ok another question about this whole thing. When would one find out about the Presidential Scholars Program? Do they send out that information with the acceptance package?

According to the Presidential Scholars website, those invited to compete for the scholarship are notified in a separate letter. The site specifically states "December 18th through 20th" but I can't tell if it's current. Here's a link to the FAQ:
