Most EA schools generally take only students above their average profile and I’m guessing your ACT, while good, is not above the average for many of the schools on your list. Still I’m surprised you didn’t get into Tulane. You may want to contact your one or two top schools and let them know you remain very interested. Also if you have had any notable achievements since your application was submitted you can let all of the schools that deferred you know. Perhaps throw a last minute application in to schools like Fordham and Villanova (or one of the many other similar schools) which are still excellent but somewhat less competitive – schools like these seem more in line with your other choices than the KY and IL.
Can you think of any reasons your recommenders or counselor might communicate any negative personality or character qualities? Are there any “skeletons in the closet” that could be red flags to admissions?
If the answer is no, you probably will find success in the RD round. However, at this point, you should consider the above advice, and send off a few apps to safeties to ensure a slot somewhere. Best of luck.
@runner35 Good for you that you handled the Common App on your own…you are probably right that other applicants may have had private counselors and the like help them. I really think you have a great shot at Tulane, BC, and Michigan (in that order). Honestly, I doubt Gtown and UND just because they are just so competitive. I would definitely send something to let these three know that you are still interested…at a minimum it will make them pull your file and draw some attention to it. Maybe go visit one of them again and then send your admissions rep an email with a follow up question??
