Deferred at WashU... Still a Chance!?

I applied ED to WashU, completely in love with the school, and I got deferred. I've been applying to other schools though... Chances?!

WashU
Northwestern
Vanderbilt
Rice

I have a 4.0 GPA unweighted to this point. I float between 1 and 3 out of the 338 in my class, so def top 3%.

I am an IB candidate, HL English, Bio and Psych; SL Spanish, History, and Math Studies. IB scores so far are 5 in History, 7 in Math Studies. Taking AP Statistics this year. Took an art course every year, all honors courses freshman and sophomore year.

I played JV tennis as a Freshman and Sophomore.
ECs; Science Olympiad 10-12 (Team Captain), Math Club 9-11 (Secretary), NHS 11-12, Academic Recognition Council 9-12

Volunteer: 6 hours a week at Shelter for Abused and Neglected, 3 hours a week for Harvesters, 2 hours a week as Treasurer in the Teens Auxiliary of the Kansas City Assistance League; 150+ hours total of tutoring for honors courses

Wrote an essay on preserving time for Common App, was considered good by 3 teachers who revised it. 2 Rec letters, 1 from my bio teacher who I've known all 4 years, had for class 11&12, she knows me really well and wrote an amazing letter; 1 from my math teacher from 11 and who I spent 100 hours tutoring for over the summer, knows me fairly well, but I didn't get to read the letter, so I'm unsure about that one.

Also, I'm pretty generic; White & Christian, Low income (around 40,000)

CHANCES? Please & Thank you!!!

What is your SAT/ACT and subject test scores?

ur application looks really good but its impossible to tell w/o knowing ur test scores. 2150+ and i think ur in
chance me? - http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1447554-chance-me.html

I have a 34 ACT; 35 English, 35 Math, 33 Reading, 31 Science. Only a 9 on writing though.

SAT was 710 Math, 670 English and 600 Reading. I didn’t send this anywhere but it’s probably on my transcript.

ur def in at NU n Vandy n Rice. id say u shd get into WUSTL as well but since u got deferred i dunno.

Where do you live? High need, using the ACT, regional would be a tough go. What percent of deferred got in last year?

Did you visit or go to an information session? It seems that demonstrated interest is a big deal at WUSTL?

wait… ur applying for aid??? i dunno then… prolly gonna be harder for u

I live in Missouri. So in state for WashU. They’re a lot tougher than they seem to get into. I haven’t been able to find anything on how much of the ED pool gets in or deferred. I know everybody else from my school who went ED was rejected though, so I guess I should be glad I’m still considered?!

Yes, I went to an on campus visit and I’ve been to several information sessions. And I applied ED to show interest more.

Yeah, aid is also a big deal at Wash U, they really don’t like anybody who has low income whether you apply for aid or not.

so will high finances make up for really bad grades?? (i wish they would :frowning: )

In some schools, yes. That’s why there are schools that specify their admission process is need blind, because they don’t consider finances. Whereas some schools are looking for money along with a high quality student and I’d say you fit that pretty well.

wow thanks. id love to go to WUSTL (hopefully see u there). its so much better than university of san francisco

WUSTL: High match
NWU: High match
Rice: Match
Vanderbilt: Match

All of the schools you listed are reaches for nearly anyone who applies… I’m not sure why people are saying that you will surely get in at Rice, Vandy, and NU… Do you have safeties?

Low reach for all
