^Yup, I agree. Besides, with a solid rank and good extracurriculars you’ll definitely be on the cusp for Cornell and will have a decent shot at JHU, especially if you can increase your SAT score, although you might want to focus on your subject tests instead.

I mean, unless you can substantially improve your SAT score so that it is higher than your ACT score (~2100+), I don’t think there is any need in retaking the exam. It would be more prudent to increase your subject tests scores (which is easier) to around the 700s because your application is weak in that area.

I was thinking of applying to CALS with COE as my second. The last time I took bio was a couple years ago but I might be able to relearn some of the material. I took chem last year and I can always take math again.

Have you considered Geneseo/Binghamton as alternatives? Cornell and JHU are both reachable, but the two schools above both will provide an academic experience more similar to your top schools than that of your other schools. Also, the state price doesn’t hurt.

Ah I missed the engineering/med focus. Those are solid schools for those topics, especially SB. Sidenote: First-year engineering at Cornell is BRUTAL. I know about 5-6 people who went through it, and they all were swamped twice over with the work. Just be prepared to work your ass off if you get in.

suny binghamton – great academics and instate price
U. Rochester — low reach
WPI – match

My d has 1970 sats, and isn’t a reach candidate for any ivy or JHU.
Your sat I and sat IIs are not ivy material. I think for Cornell you probably need 2100-2200 to be in the middle of the range of a very talented applicant pool.

Your class rank is very good. I don’t know what a 31 ACT corresponds to, but I think it is higher than a 1960.

in all honesty, i wouldn’t expect you to get into JHU or Cornell. Your deferral to Dartmouth (which IMO is less selective than the other two) was probably because you applied ED. had you applied RD, that would be more likely to have been a rejection.
i’d say they’re both reaches. retake your tests, they are QUITE low for Hopkins/Cornell.
