Deferred by Northwestern. Questions!

First of all, congratulations to all the ED applicants who have been accepted! I have been deferred by Northwestern (Weinberg), and I have a few questions about how I should approach this situation.

My SAT I is 2050 (660 CR, 700 M, 690 W). However, I have not taken any SAT II subject tests. I plan on testing in January, but I am not sure whether the best option for me is to retake the SAT I, and likely improve my score, or take two SAT II tests and risk a poor score.

Because my GPA is also relatively low (3.85 unweighted), I am assuming it was my ECs, essays, and recommendation letters that prevented rejection. Other than improving my testing scores and GPA, what other steps should I take? My writing is extraordinarily strong, so should I submit an additional writing supplement? Also, would anyone be willing to look over my Northwestern supplemental essay?

Thanks so much!

I’m in the same boat!! My college councilor told me that only about 100 of us were deferred, which is a relatively small number, so I think chances are good that quite a few of us will be accepted this spring.

My test scores are pretty high (34 ACT), but my GPA is low for NU (3.5). I’m thinking it was my Recs and essays, as well as my high school’s rep, that prevented rejection.
Is it worth it to submit additional essays and recommendations? It would be a dream come true to go to NU, I’m not giving up yet.
Thanks!

My view: An additional recommendation that throws new light on you might help. Good Luck. If I were you, I will make every effort to have a face to face meeting with my regional admission office and market myself!

pm me your essay, I’ll be willing to have a look!
