Deferred, chances for march admission?

After lots of refreshing and waiting, I finally accessed the website to find a big, fat deferral. I was kind of suprised so I called admissions and they suggested getting good grades this semester and submitting them in January. This is my match school imo with UF as a reach and UCF as a safety. Anyways without further adieu here are my stats:

Hispanic Male

SAT: 2020
Math:660
Reading:650
Writing:710

GPA (bit low):
UW - 3.1
W - 4.15
FSU - 3.3

Service Hours: 284
Extra Curriculars - Varsity Lacrosse 3 yrs, held jobs (McDonalds & Walgreens) all throughout junior and senior year, in a couple of clubs but nothing too special.

Essay - solid

Senior Courseload - AP Gov/Econ, AP European History, all honors besides that.
We're currently at the end of the second quarter, my grades aren't phenomenal because I thought I was into FSU for sure and just had to keep them above D's...I'm hoping for AABB for 1st quarter (talking to teachers about grades, currently still have a 79% in gov/econ) and AAAB in 2nd quarter.

Thanks.

how the **** did you get deferred? mind blown

what was your schedule? also, grades?

my schedule is 2 dual enrollments, 5 APs, one honors

It’s because I got a D in Calculus and my fsu gpa is pretty low, lol wish I wouldn’t have taken that class…Never had any intentions of studying math in college.

interesting…yeah i had gotten a B in calculus and a B in ap chem the same year (11th).

math and sciences aren’t really my thing >:l

what did you list as your major?

sociology i believe

yeah…most sociology majors are “partiers” from what i believe…they want to lose the party reputation so you should blend in more with the math and science people. lol

meh. lol. do you know at all how much harder march is than december? i thought it would be easier because the more competitive applicants were already accepted…

no because most seniors are lazy and decided to turn in applications after oct 17

March is MUCH more difficult to get accepted than December.

what do you think my chances are?

It’s going to depend on how you do in your courses. If you don’t have any bad grades, I’d say your chances are pretty good. If the D was just a one-time thing, that’s all they really care about.

Yeah, actually up doing some work for my euro class as we speak…-_-
Anyways thanks.

It’s hard to imagine someone with a 2000+ SAT being rejected. I guess what they say is true: FSU really prioritizes your GPA over your test scores.

It seems like once you get below a 3.5, FSU starts to get very picky.

It appears so  Anyways I’m shooting for a 4.0 FSU gpa for first quarter and a 4.5 FSU gpa second. Hopefully that’ll show them that I’m a serious student.

It’s not really surprising to me that anyone that got a D was deferred. Stats have steadily crept up the last few years, so any bad grades are magnified.

Keep in mind that FSU only looks at semester grades, not quarter grades. So if you have a B for the semester, talking to teachers about your first quarter grade likely won’t change anything.

in my freshman year i ended up with 2 bad final grades: drama (i was shy) and world history (i wasn’t used to heavy bookwork). i ended up with an F and a D, respectively. however those were my only bad grades freshman year, and sophomore year i had A’s and B’s only (semesters).

also, my schedule has been rigorous since junior year. I’ve also never had regular classes.

Yeah I think as long as you have an upward trend you’re fine, but my poor grades were in junior year so it’s different
