You stats seem fine for Rice. It will just depend on whether you “appeal” to them over someone else. Good luck. Either way you win bc you get to go to UT!
Tippy tops will look at the transcript and which classes got less than an A grade. If they’re cores (and especially if related to your possible major,) that’s an issue. Same for those AP scores. You may have had a challenge, but they look for the level of learning. And the competition is fierce. That makes the Ivies, MIT, and maybe UCLA/UCB tough.
Sorry to say, the list is unrealistic for an Asian Male for those top schools, esp. with a major in pre-med type. uw GPA is a big issue. AP scores, while usually not a factor in most school, CAN BE make or break points for the Ivies, especially with your specific demographic. Unless you are from Cali, UCLA is getting ridiculously difficult to get in for OOS - UCB is pretty much out for you, If I have to make a bet. Among the Ivies, Cornell maybe the only one with some sort of a shot, as the rest, ask yourself this question - how do you separate your application from the rest. If you get sick because of cancer, then, many times that will help (in a sick sense of college application). But you get overloaded with classes and get sick, and get bad grades in return, it will backfire. It is awfully late to consider schools that are not on your list and with a ranking high enough to get you interested. But I would definitely look at the top 35-50 schools on USNWR for backup ideas. Time is very short to put in new applications, but a list with all those extreme reaches could put you in the hole if they don’t work out.
You have a shot at Cornell, but it depends on which school you are applying to since some colleges require SAT subject tests and your scores aren’t the best.

A large reason as to why all my scores are low and gpa is low is due to the illness, my doctor and my counselor wrote that in their rec letters too. Do you guys think colleges would be understanding of this?
bump ^^
Just an FYI, if you are planning to be premed/engineering you should have considered good engineering schools vs elite schools. If your eventual goal is med school you want to go to the school where you will perform your best, have zero debt upon graduation, and where you will most likely be in the top 10% of your class. Most students that start out premed are weeded out due to having a poor gpa and you mentioned you want to pursue an engineering degree where the gpa’s are not that high. Prepare to take a gap year after graduation because the four year timeline will be too tight to meet engineering and premed requirements, take the MCAT and apply to med school. (after junior year) There is a good chance that you may change your mind and no longer pursue premed because one or two bad semesters and then it is hard to recover your gpa to be good enough for med school.
Given that you did not score well in your AP exams you will not have much college credit starting out and you may need an extra semester to complete all the premed and engineering requirements. Keep that in mind when finalizing a school. Based on your goal I would say your best bet is going to Texas. All the other schools you have mentioned are reaches. Whatever school you consider your safeties make sure that you will be happy to attend them and that they are affordable options for you. Honestly if medical school is your longterm goal go with the cheapest option so that you graduate debt free and also where you are more likely to shine amongst your classmates.
Other schools you could have considered are Michigan and Alabama but I am not sure of their deadlines. Right now almost all the schools you have applied to are reaches for you simply because these schools get more qualified applicants then they have space for in their incoming class.
Keep in my mind this is coming from another high schooler (Asian Male ). Sorry if its harsh.
At the end of the day, college admissions is a zero sum game. Saying that you “had to go to the ER for studying too hard for AP Tests” won’t help you whatsoever. In fact, it just makes it look like your looking for pity.
I would add just a bunch of pre-med safeties for you to apply.
Being a fellow pre-med applicant, I was told to emphasize on colleges that wouldn’t be super-competitive, so as to graduate with the least debt possible and be at the top of the class.
Schools like UCSD, UCD would fit you, being a California resident.
OOS privates that should also be on your list include Northeastern, Purdue, Tufts etc.
UCLA is not a safety, especially for your major and especially if your a-g 9th and 10th grade gpa is what you posted here. UCs care much more about grades than they do test scores. My son had a higher GPA and similar SAT to yours. He was denied at UCLA (accepted at other UCs but he did not apply to Berkeley).
The only school on your list that I’d call a match would be Emory. Your SAT is in range for other schools but these are schools that routinely turn down students with similar scores and higher GPAs. Some others might still hit so don’t abandon hope but they will be reaches. I would not be surprised if Rice came through with an offer so don’t give up hope there.
Unless you are happy about going to UT (which would make perfect sense), then you might want to seek out other good schools that are still accepting applications. @GreenPoison made good suggestions for the private universities (Purdue’s deadline is Jan 1 though so don’t delay). Obviously you already know that the UC app deadline has long passed so the good suggested UC alternatives won’t work.
@jflan I have heard great things about Hendrix college. I know someone who goes there and is premed and is doing very well in the grades department. He is also able to get research opportunities and they also may give you good merit. I am not sure if they are still taking applications. I think you’d be someone they would strongly take a look at. It seems like a nice safety and it is a very small school like Rice as a good alternative. I have heard it is very easy for the teachers to really get to know you. They also like high sat scores.
I think that your grades and test scores are great, however, a lot of people have great grades and test scores, they are not a guarantee anywhere, I think that you have a good chance of getting into those schools but I would definitely add some safety schools to your list! Give yourself some piece of mind with an acceptance letter, it really helped my anxiety about college.
bump my safety is now UT, as I have already gotten accepted. This is the official list of schools I applied to: (I know these are probably all reaches but can you chance me for these anyways)
