Got a great rec from Bob Kerry as well as my supervisor at the New School.

Awesome rec from TA at Columbia (talks about my interest and knowledge in electronics)

Also got reccomendations from my Physics, Chemistry, and U.S. History teachers.

what killed me was that they checked 1st quarter grades and i had one C.

So here’s my list of colleges:

Cornell (ED)

MIT (roll of the dice)

Columbia

Brown

Carnegie Mellon

University of Maryland College Park

Rutgers

Please rate my chances. Again, I will be grateful for your comments. Be honest.

Holy crap..you got deferred?!

Wow. Bring up your GPA, and I would say you have a good chance at Brown/CMU (if you're not applying as a CS major). Columbia and MIT are reaches, as always.

Ouch. They're pretty picky. Obviously, you want your midyear grades to rock.

The C, combined with your less than perfect GPA, adds a little more randomness to the process. Because I don't trust this whole process, I think I woud add maybe one more school (with a relatively high admit rate) to the list - with a good EE department - unless you like Rutgers enough fro that to be ok. I think you are fine (at about the 90% level) and will have options as your list stands - but not at the 100% level.

Crap you got deferred??

I thought you would have a good shot at MIT...

yeah my C was in Calculus so that didn't help.

However it, is definitely going to be a B by midyear. I'm currently getting an A this marking period.

btw i am applying to columbia SEAS, not the college

bump..........................

what were your essays about?
maybe meet with your counselor and see what you could do to get in regular decision. maybe you could write them a super essay andsendthat in, or do something really interesting over winter holiday and tell them about it.

i think you have really good chances at schools 4 through 7. I dont know about MIT, as you said it's a roll of the dice.

my essays were about my "passion" in applying knowledge.

I think what really killed me was that god**** C.

Maybe I'll have a shot if I pull it up to a B.

BTW, I read your chances thread. I wish you good luck. And don't take it to personal. This admissions process is way too cold and impersonal.

bump...........

anyone else?

deferred usually means that they are looking to see if you will improve your grades. if you do im sure you willg et in.

hopeful, thats utter b.s., i got deferred from Penn last year, got straight As in 5 AP classes my first semester, didn't get accepted in the end.

they also want supplementary materials usually

bump, and can anyone tell me which ones they think i'll be accepted/rejected from. Add Johns Hopkins, Princeton, and TCNJ

bump.................................

come on anyone?

I'm Turkish and got rejected with similar stats for business, from Wharton. Maybe too many Turkish people are applying to Ivy Leagues lately. =P

Well.. from looking at ur app I really doubt what your missing are your academics. Actually, I think you might have "too" much academics and not enough of the non-academic stuff... like sport or music. remember, colleges don't just look for scores and qualifications, they look for character and extracirricular stuff too. i think you should emphasize outside school stuff that you simply like to do for fun, like watch movies (i know that columbia has a section where u fill in films, festivals, etc that you enjoy), or play sport or anything non-academic.

also, i hope you didn't write something academic based for ur essay..!

i reckon ur app is giving the impression that you concentrate too much on academic scores, achievements and awards, although in reality, you probably dont.

anyways, that's just my opinion..!

thanx guys. I believe that I rounded myself out well in my app. Maybe i was wrong...
