Deferred chances

I was deferred early decision from Rice. Do any of you know about how many people Rice accepts from the deferred list?

From their website (2004 admissions)

Decision Plans
Early Decision:
Number of early decision applicants 559
Number accepted 168* (30%)
Number enrolled 161 (96%)
Interim Decision:
Number of interim decision applicants 3,349
Number accepted 938** (28%)
Number enrolled 327 (35%)
Regular Decision:
Number of regular decision applicants 4,202
Number accepted 616*** (15%)
Number enrolled 210† (34%)
Eight (8) were deferred and admitted under a later decision plan.
Thirty-six (36) were deferred and admitted under Regular Decision.
*
*Forty (40) were admitted from the wait list.
†Twenty-nine (29) of those admitted from the wait list enrolled.
The total admitted includes three (3) admitted students who will enroll in Fall 2005.

chances are not bad...

ridpat88, did you didnt get in interim, either i suppose? so double deferral?

i really wish we knew how many students rice defers total. i was told that i was one of their "top students" in the deferal pile, so i'm hoping that i can make it into the ~40 ppl accepted.

what are your stats mjoe? just to get an idea

SAT -2250 (780M, 760V, 710W, one sitting)
SAT II - 4 tests 660-720, not really very good at all
1/478, 4.45 W GPA, 4.0 UW
13 AP Classes, 5 Pre-AP, 5 Honors
likely a good recc

ec - 500+ hours in laboratory doing biological research and performing microsurgery, 100 hours of volunteer service, vp+founder of french club, graphic logo designer for colleges and national companies, yearbook and website positions in PTSA, in stuco and key club, MENSA, JV soccer
awards - NM Comm, AP Scholar with honors, school awards

I'm a white dude from texas and applied to the engineering school. none of those factors help out at all. i'd like to do statistics, which is in the engineering school. my low SAT ii's really kill me tho. also, being a valedictorian doesn't seem to help much, since they say they only accept 1/3 of the valedictorians that apply. the valedictorian from our school was deferred, and never accepted. however, he had a 1450 M+V, and very little EC.

um, no jjjjj. I got deferred ED and so I was placed in the regular decision pool. People who are deferred are not put into the ID category so I was deferred only once.

mjoe, how do you know that you are one of their "top students" in the deferral pile?

SATs matter less than you think. your SAT II's matter much less than you think. a good friend from my high school got a 15k merit scholarship/year (60k total) with SAT II's in your range. this means that he was one of the top applicants, easily top 15% of the pool.

and ya, without total deferred, how can you say chances arent bad? that is crucial.

please look in my thread titled "Reason for Deferral" on the 2nd page for details. but in short, my counselor talked with an admissions person in charge of the deferred candidates and told him i was a "top student" and they are "very interested in me" when she looked at my application.
