Deferred Dartmouth ED-er

Hey. Not up to snuff right now, but if anyone could help me sort out what to do from here, I'd really appreciate it. All I've applied to so far are Dartmouth, Williams and Amherst, my dream schools, and half-applied (not complete yet) to Middlebury and Vassar. I've been looking at colby and bowdoin too. Please help me... it would mean a lot.

That's about it. i have no idea about my recs, they're from my eng teacher from last year who read one of my 'books' and my euro teacher and current soc teacher who is just awesome and my guidance counselor is also head of my book club. my essay's on a math teacher who inspired me to go forward, incl graduating early.

Sorry I took so long. I'd really like help. Thanks!

bump... please... in need of help!

Hey...I know a girl who's going to williams that was rejected ED from dartmouth..SO don't lose hope! But definitely if you like williams and midd apply to bowdoin, colby and look at bates, your definitely qualified....some other schools to look at: Haverford, Swarthmore, Tufts and Cornell for reach/match, Bucknell, University of Richmond, Colgate, Union & Hamilton (both free online !!!!) for match/safety....Good Luck!

I think you have a good chance at those schools. Your stats are impressive, but you should probably emphasize the equestrian and authorship in your apps, (if you haven't already). I think those are pretty good ECs, even if you haven't won first place in a Worldwide Novel Writing While Horseback Riding Championship.

Thanks to both of you. I'm definitely going to look into your suggestions, Sara; it's a huge comfort that someone got into Williams after being rejected from Dartmouth. Thanks kaka for your support. I have tried to emphasize both of these, but I think I'll work a little harder on that. Anyone else have any suggestions/help?

Please please please take pity on me and help. My guidance counselor needs my decisions asap and I'm totally lost.

Truegibberish, given the admissions scenes these years, I really think you need a few schools that are not so selective. Given your great stats I would not even use the term "match" in your case as the schools that match your profile just are not matches for anyone. Also given the type of schools you like, the personal LACs, it is difficult to classify them as "safeties" unless you show some demonstrated interest in them with visits, web chats if offered, going to local meetings if they host any, etc. I would go on with Colby, and then look at some schools such as Trinity, Union, Hamilton, and then find one absolute safety that you could do on line without too much of a hassle. Middlebury, Vassar and Bowdoin are very selective schools that spend a lot of time hand picking their class. Just throwing an application their way is not a good idea, and it just does not sound like you have put a lot of time courting the schools. Also take a look at some of the all women's colleges. I know that Mt Holyoke has a great equestrian program.

Thanks-- if I were to do some emergency-work, as in visiting all such schools from now through feb/march, I know it wouldn't be the same, (and I am ashamed to say Williams and Amherst are the only ones I have truly 'courted'), but is it possible to right some of my wrongs? I certainly don't want to seem as if I have no interests, as I am attracted to Middlebury for specific reasons (amazing creative writing program with all the authors coming to Bread Loaf) and I have done a lot of research on Vassar and Colby, which unfortunately is not the type of attention you mean. My decision to graduate early was not entirely well-designed and although I know Dartmouth, Williams, Amherst suit me extremely well, I have not planned everything out. I am considering Mt Holyoke for its riding, but perhaps Skidmore would suit me better if I want a coed school? Thanks so much for your advice. I'll get right on it.

Might want to apply to Holy Cross, Trinity, or Bucknell. Holy Cross like Dartmouth has great alumni network and school spirit.

True:
D got ED deferral/ RD rejection at Dartmouth. She is a very happy student at Bates and we think events turned out very well for her. We would have to say that thus far her educational experience at Bates is better than the one her brother experienced at Dartmouth. Just our experiences, but don't dispair---things can turn out just great!

Truegibberish

My daughter has very similar profile and she was deferred today from Dartmouth. However, I wanted to let you know that she did get accepted at Michigan, if you are looking for other ideas. Nothing like a small New England school I realize but it does have very good academics and school spirit and Ann Arbor is a great college town.

Keep your list, but definitely go for a real safety- Skidmore sounds like a good idea. How about Connecticut College? It sounds like you really like New England/Northeast. Union is very nice, as is UVM. But I bet you'll get in to one of your original choices.

this post seems like a lie considering writing is under the sat II's, perhaps a hypothetical post?

I also got deferred today, but don’t lose hope! I’m applying to many of the same schools as you, and it’s a good direction to take.
