Deferred Depression

I am currently experiencing this and will probably be until the regular decision is mailed out. Was a Rice hopeful for 2017. Any tips on dealing with this?

Yes. Contact their admissions office, remind them that this is your first choice school, ask if there is anything else you can do to show your commitment and what a good fit you are. And then…turn to other things. You’ve done all you can do at this point. Dwelling on it and worrying won’t help the wait pass faster; focus on your senior year, schoolwork and fun. Looking back to last year, it’s amazing how much the college panic took over so many kids’ lives at high school, and meanwhile, they neglected to savor their senior year as it zipped by.

You will probably be told by some not to bother admissions but I think it is okay to continue to express your interest. Be positive and forward thinking-let them know they are your absolute first choice and just seeking guidance on where they are hoping to see your application strengthened. Then get back in the saddle and look for other schools to which to appply. There is more than one school that can meet your needs and you will feel better being in the drivers seat and taking control of your options. Hang in there and good luck.

I have a 4.3W and scored a 28
on my ACT. I called admissions and was told that I was deferred by FSU because my sophomore year I recieved a D in pre IB Chemistry. I was so upset & was wondering if anyone had heard of someone being accepted after deferral? I have applications in to UCF and USF also, but have not heard anything yet! I retook the class and got a B, but they said retaking it helped my grade point avg but that “it still shows up”. I have all honors classes and have all A’s since then. Does anyone think that I have a realistic chance of getting accepted at FSU, UCF or USF??

I applied to FSU also but got deferred.
