Deferred=Depression

Well, I recieved my decision today, and sadly I was deferred. However, my gc told me to see this as an oppurtunity because I am about to take the SAT 2s, my crit reading went from a 550 to a 600 (btw 650-M, 600-CR, 580-W), and I'm pretty sure I'm going to place in my county for wrestling. Despite this info, I'm still worrying that the ea pool is weaker than the rd. Is this true, and does being deferred give me a little edge over the rd pool?

I dunno man but sorry for you :(

Where are you from, if you don't mind me asking.

I don't mind at all, I'm from NY

most tulane students (well the majority if there can be one, 34%) are from the NE with a concentration from NY. if i may ask also, why do so many northerners love Tulane

i mean, only 14% is from Louisiana

its so funny, im aching to go to a school in New York and you want to come here

bad thing is, there are so many colleges i cant go too just because my school only offers 2 foreign language classes (french 1 and 2) and i havent taken sat 2's

if i wanted to get into somewhere like harvard id have to wait a year to take the sat 2s and then apply but they would look down on that

so depressing lol

the warm weather would definitely be nice for a change and i love the southern culture

yeah its nice down here

if we all 3 go ill make u guys gumbo or something LOL.

I got deferred too

me too...

oh well

D also deferred. I am not surprised!

dang im getting worried now :</p>

Friends son was also deferred. (2 other seniors from his school got in. He is IB, great GPA but low test scores.)
I don't know anything, but my take on this..... Tulane sends out many, many mailers with the "no essay, no fee, decision in 1 month, blah, blah, blah. My now college soph filled out the app then and my HS senior DID NOT. He hates the hot weather. I can't imagine how many seniors filled out the apps. Likely way more than they can accept.

Tulane is known to give lots of money. It has a great reputation. My guess is they are inundated with apps due to the above. Who wouldn't apply EA under these circumstances?

There are many other great schools. Many who give merit $ so don't despair. Get those apps out and search CC for threads on those schools if you need the $ (and who doesn't?) Good luck to all of you. You all still have a chance. Also, remember, it doesn't matter where you don't get in, it only matters where you do get in!

What are the chances of getting in after getting deffered at a school like Tulane?

According to another thread (search Hawkette), Tulane has an 18% yield....not sure what this means for deferred students, but thought it was relevant to collegecrazy's question.....

well i know that over 30K people applied for 1400 spots last year so lol its gonna be tough considering probably 800 of the spots will be taken EA I'd estimate.

kettering sent me a personal app for no app fee and no essay so im gonnna apply there as well

I got my letter today...deferred. Totally bummed out.

Does anyone have some solid numbers on how many applicants that are deferred early action are actually admitted with the regular pool? Or is it the end in terms of me and Tulane?

i called, and they say they dont even have the numbers for last year. so let's hope all of the rd pool are drop outs

i found out i was accepted to lsu yesterday

Deferred - a legacy with similar or better stats of many accepted. I guess they can say "buh-bye" to further donations.

nola90,
don't give up hope! being deferred doesn't mean you won't get in! if anything you could get priority because you took initiative in applying early!

Thanks, tlanton! No choice but to wait until April 1. My SATs were in the 700's, ACT 30, good ec's doing things I really loved, also some varsity sports, APs 4 & 5, so it's not like I am not in the range. I'll do what I was going to do anyway, fill out some more applications. I think it is unfortunate that several schools are starting with the no fee, no recommendation applications desperate to make themselves appear to be more selective with the numbers game. The fallout of it is that it is hard for them to distinguish which students really want to go to the school and which ones are doing it because they have nothing to lose (no doubt the school losing some promising students). It's just my opinion, but I feel it's a flawed system and not a benefit in the long run to their reputation or alumni relations.
