i definitely agree with you. tulane has been my top choice for a couple of years now and it definitely sort of hurt when i would hear people were applying there for the heck of it. i sort of felt like my chances of getting in were being diminished by people who didn't even care about the school. luckily, for me i did get in but others like yourself were screwed by the system! i'm sorry!

I don't have any statistics, but if that 18% yield rate is correct, then it is probably a great sign for deferred applicants. I mean I'm sure that Tulane admits way more students than will attend because they too know this stat, but this means that there will be a lot of admitted students that choose to go elsewhere. The fact that many students applied for the hell of it is also good for deferred applicants because this means that they probably will not attend, opening up spots for others. But, because of the financial situation we are in now, many students who received merit from Tulane may opt to go there. So I guess in sum, there is no real way of determining how the deferred pool will do this year. I do think that many more deferred applicants will be accepted to Tulane compared to many other schools that have much higher yield rates. The best thing to do now is to retake your SATs or ACTs, because it seems as if this is really what Tulane is focusing on right now. You can't really redo your past grades, but you can redo your scores.

Got in today RD with some low stats 2.85 UW 32 ACT very good ECs and LORs. However, I believe that the reason I was admitted was that I wrote a strong essay. My advice to those who have been deferred but still intend to reapply is to focus on writing a powerful and honest essay.

I know what you mean about the increased marketing of the school. Being from California Id never heard much about Tulane, but I got the email saying the app was free and applied. Since I got accepted though I ve done some research and I gotta say I really like the school and am seriously weighing attending.

We live in CA as well and my son is a freshman there. I would say his experience with applying to Tulane is similar to what you described. Now he is happy with his decision and doing very well academically. One thing you need to think about is if you live in the Bay area, there is no direct flight to NOLA and thus it could be an issue for some people.

I do live in the bay area. Thats a good thing to pay attention to. Thanks for the heads up.

defferals UNITE
whatever yall we still have a chance!

do we know when regular decisions go out?

April 1st!!!

the best thing to do if you're deferred is to stay in contact with the admissions office to try to find out why your application wasn't considered right now. they love it when students seek them out, it's recorded in your file. if you make an effort to improve the weak spots, then they'll see that in the spring and you'll look way more attractive than you did in the fall. being deferred sucks, but at least you still have a second chance to do better. i hope y'all get in!
good luck to everybody!

I agree with the poster above. I recently contacted the admissions counselor for my area sometime in February, and she noted that my interest was recorded with my application. To be candid here, I thought I would’ve gotten rejected, but the deferred status made me somewhat happy. I don’t know how I rank compared to those that applied (1800 SAT, rank 15 out of 596, didn’t do the optional “Why Tulane?” essay but did it this week and sent it to the admissions counselor), but I’m scared. I got rejected from my dream school (Rice), but saw that as an opportunity to see the oblivious, and because of that, I am REALLY considering Tulane.

I heard Tulane is superb with its financial aid, is that correct? A big issue is the aid I will receive. I got accepted to Baylor, but they want me to take out 21k in loans. I don’t think that’s applicable in my situation.

Best of luck fellow deferred applicants, I wish you the best.
