I have been deferred and i seriously want a spot in the class of 2009! I have sent my most recent reports - which was required - and am contemplating writing to them in order to increase my chances. Does it help or is it useless?

i wouldn't write them. chances are your decision has already been made as of early april. i got deferred too, and i'm *ed they havent sent back any notification. i mean, colleges are supposed to send out rejection/acceptance letters by april b/c students need some time to DECIDE which college they need to go to as tuition deposits are all due around May 1st. so i'm really *ed that Michigan doesnt even bother to notify, it's like they're just waiting until last minute and making you hanging by a thread.

cathleen, the last part of what you said is true. I live in Indonesia and how the heck am I gonna get my decision by May 1st. I mean mails from the US take AT LEAST 2 weeks to reach here. So, yeah.

Today I got a thin envelope in the mail... and considering that its early April I assumed the worst eventhough I'm a well qualified transfer candidate, but it was a DEFERRAL! So I guess I'll wait another two weeks or so to hear the final verdict.

today? wow - have you sent your recent report to them?

I don't think it would help to write unless you have new information. If you've been deferred, your application has already been evaluated. Writing won't change the evaluation, unless something has changed in your academic record. You'll get a decision when they act on all the applications given the same evaluation as yours.

Write if it would help your sanity--and it might! Some people aren't comfortable unless they feel they've made every effort. But for most candidates, a letter isn't going to change where they are in the queue.
