Deferred EA by Georgetown... What can I do?

I cried for about an hour this afternoon when I got my letter... I know deferral is basically rejection, but I'm going to try as hard as I can to get in RD. Georgetown is and always has been my first choice, but I didn't work as hard as I could have in school freshman and sophomore years, so I'm having trouble. Any input would really, really be appreciated, and while you're at it, can I reasonably expect to get into George Washington? Thank you so, so much.

...what else?

You seem like a great student, sorry for your pain (been there already this fall with my child with another school). I can’t say what will happen with your apps but you’ll find your place, you have excellent credentials, good luck.

Don’t be too worried… you could still get in RD (and it seems like you have a great shot… deferral is NOT always rejection). My friend who applied EA Georgetown told me that it’s extremely tough to get in EA there, and they often admit people they had deferred to RD.

You’ll almost definitely get in to GW, and I’d be surprised if you didn’t get a merit scholarship. Regardless, with your stats you’re bound to find a school perfect for you.

I’m sorry you got deferred. Georgetown EA is not easy and deferral absolutely does not mean rejection. It means that they were interested in you, but not enough to accept you. Evaluating your application from what we know, I have some preliminary thoughts:

-was your schedule as difficult as it possibly could have been? Many high schools do not offer as many AP classes, but many offer a full slate of them, and only taking 2 junior year would raise some questions.
-SAT II’s might be a bit low, I don’t think they led to your deferral, though.
-did you apply to SFS (foreign service)? Hardest school to get into at G-town IIRC.

 • You are clearly an intelligent and motivated student, but perhaps they were impressed more by other applicant’s extracurriculars.

Everything else seems to be okay. Good luck in RD!

Thanks a bunch, guys, I appreciate the comments and advice.

I did not apply to the SFS… and the SFS actually had the highest EA acceptance rate of any of the undergraduate schools this year, IIRC. xD
