deferred EA, then accepted RD?

My high school guidance counselor said that at ND, if you are deferred EA that you basically have no chance being accepted in the RD pool. I have no idea if she is right or not. Has anyone here been deferred EA but later admitted RD? Or do you have any other info about whether deferees are put into the RD pool and looked at equally?

She is WRONG!!!!

Yes, people do get accepted after they were deferred EA. But, I think it is important to evaluate whether you should put yourself into that EA pool. Don't apply early unless you are at the 75% mark for standardized test scores and in the top 5 % of the school. This is just my opinion that has been echoed by my admissions rep.

I agree that is wrong, and I know because it happened to me! I was in the top 3.7% of my hs class. My SAT's were good, but not great. I was deferred in December and accepted in spring. I think that in the early action pool they have really strict cut-offs. If I had to guess about myself, I think my SAT's didn't make the cut. In fact, if I remember correctly, in my deferral letter they wrote that they had 22 candidates with perfect SAT's.
I winded up not going to Notre Dame, but I still think about that decision a lot! Who knows. I'm at the University of Virginia, and it is quite nice too. I'm from the south and heading up north, alone, away from family was a little too much for me. Best of luck! Notre Dame is in my heart for many reasons.

It's not too late to transfer ;)

Haha!! Good one! No, I'm on Mr. Jefferson's grounds now!

Tim is correct. check last year's threads about EA at ND. The Uni makes it very clear that they only want extremely strong applicants to apply EA. Acceptance after deferral is low, and I'm guessing lower than the RD round.

"Acceptance after deferral is low, and I'm guessing lower than the RD round."
I would say not. If you are deferred your chances of acceptance in RD is the same as everyone else. If you are deferred it is a good thing in that they consider you a competitive candidate otherwise you would be rejected in EA, We asked all these questions of the Adm rep. . Of course you should be competitive in the early ap pool. Don't blatantly disregard their request to be above the average admitted student. Stay calm the application season has just begun. The stress will mount remember you have a candle at the grotto lit in your name. and you will wind up where you are meant to be. Get done with your apps and get on with enjoying your senior year.

i actually know two guys from the same school who were deferred EA and were admitted regular. But one had a sibling here and the other had a 1500 on the SAT on the old scale...just comes to show that it's really arbitrary.
