I just found out I was deferred from Tulane.
Is there any chance I can still get in?
How often do deferred candidates gain admission?
My stats:
CR-650 M-610 W-630
GPA: 86 UW
my school does not offer honors/AP's because i go to a very competitive private school
Top 25%
EC's: Managing Editor of my school newspaper
Eagle Scout
Over 200 service hours

Certainly you still have a shot. As I mentioned to someone else in a PM, you have the misfortune of applying in a year when they are targeting a class that will be 100 fewer than their normal target, and 230 fewer than this year’s freshman class. But no sense worrying about what you cannot change.

Your SAT scores are at the lower end of the Tulane 25%-75% range, and your GPA for 3.1 is definitely on the low side. I don’t mean to sound harsh, just giving you my take on it. Your EC’s are strong, two activities where you really focused, plus community service. Hopefully you are having a really strong semester, that will help you more than the SAT retake, unless you happen to really improve a lot. Other than that, there isn’t much you can do except wait and show your interest in Tulane.

PS: x-posted with previous two, but I will leave it up anyway. I didn’t remember this was the poster claiming the low stats but friend got in, etc. Also the SAT scores given in that post were lower than those claimed here. Maybe our instincts were right after all. It does seem bizarre. Oh well.
