Alright, so I was deferred. Now what?! I feel like all my hopes and dreams have vanished. What should I do to show them how much Wash U means to me?

Well, I also got deferred, and I’m pretty ****ed about it. But, I haven’t lost hope. I called the Undergrad Admissions office today and asked them about what I should do next. They said that staying in touch with your admissions officer is a great idea. You should get to know that person on a personal basis, from emails and everything. You can also REALLY try to make your 2nd quarter grades stand out, because that way the Admissions office takes a really big look at who you are and decide on how much you have improved in your 1st semester. Also, you should try to mail in any new awards, teacher recommendations, or standardized tests that you have to the office, because they will be using the same application that you sent in ED to decide your acceptance for RD. All of this is due no later than the end of January, so you at least have some time.

Thanks so much. Wow. I can’t believe how bad it feels to get deferred. Also, do you think it would be acceptable to have my counselor call to see why exactly I got deferred? A couple of online articles recommended it. And, just to clarify, it’s all due, before the end of january or not?

What if I were to take the SAT again at the end of january? I think thats where I falter a lot. My scores are low compared to everyone else’s. 2050 and ACT 30. I guess I’m lucky I didn’t get flat out denied.

And letter of intent? Is that something they recommend? I will have to email my admissions officer. Or should I call him?

ugh. this sucks.

yeah…I got deferred too. Does anyone know the percentage that gets deferred from WashU. And what chance do I have of getting in as Regular. Isn’t it virtually none because…I did apply under ED.

My SAT scores
CR: 660
Math: 760
Writing: 720

GPA: 93.7 out of 100

captain for a sport. some volunteer stuff

and i thought i had a decent essay but …yeah

I dont know…lol
being deferred is harder than i thought.

Decision: Deferred

So hate my life

All i have talked about for the past yearish has been Washu this, washu that.
I guess it was a one way love

ugh. you take the words straight out of my mouth. Disappointment is like being stabbed through the heart with a stingray barb. Steve Irwin, I know how it feels when you died.

So plan of action… now what?!

My son was deferred also. It was a let down at our house, but only for last night. Things started changing this morning when an action plan was drawn up. It is a To Do list. It identifies the major concepts to implement. Under the major concepts, there are specific steps. Some of the items on the list include: the states honors programs, what further resources am I going to put in w/ respect to Wash U?, setting up meeting w/ guidance counselor, etc. My sons written game plan is his new Plan A. He is now perked up! So am I.

So I vent my anger on the ACT today…and the ACT was a lot easier…I hope that’s a good sign for my ideal score. ;)

I’m going to become good pals with my admission counselor and resubmit some better stuff to make my profile better.

Come on guys! Let’s keep positive thoughts going! We deserve the spots more than those who are not considering WashU as their top!

anyone know the % of deffered that actually get accepted later? and how do u know which admissions counselor is yours?

Wait, if you are defered, do the admission people for regular decision know that you’re one of the defered applicants?

If you are deferred, the admissions board WILL know that you are one of the deferred applicants. Basically, the only thing you’re doing for your application now is adding anything that would improve your profile, such as test scores, teacher recs, awards, etc. This should be turned in no later than the end of January or the very beginning of February.

If you want to know who your admissions officer is, call the Undergrad Admissions office. That’s how I was able to tell who mine was. (IF YOU ARE FROM ST. LOUIS, YOUR ADMISSIONS OFFICER IS LAURA FOGERTY)

I was deferred as well, and was devastated at first. But now I’m actually happy I was deferred! More choices for me now! It was so weird though, 4 girls from my school applied and 2 were accepted - both of whom had lower GPAs than myself and the other girl (who I believe was rejected … ouch).

Plus think of it this way - at least we were deferred and not rejected! There’s still a chance!

deferred = slow rejection …lol

I am so depressed i got deferred
FTS

Guys! Please remember, you can always apply for a transfer. My son did and he had been out and out rejected! He transferred as a sophomore and has never looked back. You may even be able to transfer as a spring freshman since you were already considered as a deferred student. It breaks my heart to read some of your posts.

I attended this past fall’s convocation, and the student speaker, Danny Gaynor, was outstanding. He spoke about how his brother attended Wash U, so he applied ED and was deferred. Then the regular decision date came and he was flat out rejected. But then he was able to transfer and has been loving it ever since, and he was even picked to be the student convocation speaker! His story should give hope to all you deferred applicants, who may not only get to attend Wash U, but may be able to give a speech someday to thousands of the Wash U community in a packed crowd!

My point exactly!

haha you and i have pretty much the same profile (grades, SATs, sports) im even being recruited for soccer to wash u…and i still got deferred…
I WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE ACCEPTANCE RATE WAS!!
i feel like it must have been 9% because i have yet to come across a single person that was accepted ED

all the ones who got admitted are happily chatting away in the other thread. And on the facebook group. I looked at it. It made me feel even worse. WHY DO I DO THIS TO MYSELF?!

OMG Allycat I did the same thing haha. Ugh =[ Although I am disappointed, I really am trying to look on the bright side.
- More options
- It’s not the end of the world
- Maybe wash u is not where I am supposed to end up

…despite the fact that we have been having a one way love relationship for about two years now haha =/
