deferred EDI

I was deferred from Tufts EDI. Although it was bit of a let down, I am prepared to work hard on my other apps while hoping for that chance that I will get in to Tufts RD. I have some questions about being deferred.

-Does anybody know the stats about how many who are deferred get accepted in regular decision?
-Is there really a chance?
-Is there any way I can strengthen my application (I know I can send in more test scores and grades but is there any other way?)
-Can I make changes to my essays?
-Maybe the admissions bloggers can answer this, but what happens when someones gets deferred? Is it a split vote in committee or something like that? I am just curious.
-Any other useful information would be very helpful!
Congrats to all the ones who were accepted, you guys are very lucky.

hey, i was deferred as well ;/
i have the same question as you (such as the first one about how many got accepted, deferred, rejected, and how the admission committee chose who is deferred )

i do not think that we can change our essays: the best thing you can do is to update any test scores and some extracurricular activities you did not include in your ED app.
there is certainly a chance… last year a boy from my school applied ED to tufts and was deferred, but in the spring he was accepted. the same happened to a girl that applied to yale. so there is a chance ;]

good luck

Hey guys!

As somebody who was deferred and then accepted last year, I can say that it was very stressful and disheartening when I didn’t get in ED. If you care about Tufts (and you should, because its the best school ever), then you should wait it out! I remember thinking that I would never get in from the regular pool, just from a statistical viewpoint. But seriously, forget about the statistics! Tufts isn’t a school with a big ED advantage, like some others out there. And unlike some other schools, a deferrals isn’t the kiss of death. I know that Tufts handles each application really carefully, and I would definitely recommend letting them know you’re still interested. If your first quarter grades weren’t great, make sure to do really well on your midterm exams! You could also send them a letter in Jan/Feb updating them on what you’re doing and letting them know that Tufts is still at the top of your list. If you want to come here, wait it out! Seriously, I considered doing ED2 somewhere just to get it all over with, so I was looking at possibly doing Vassar. But then you’ll always have the guilt of ‘what if’ if you get in ED2 and never get to hear from Tufts. So, stick it out, and don’t lose hope. They know that you want to come here when they take another look at your application, and I seriously think that helps. Now that I’m here and just finishing up my first semester, I am SO passionate about the school and it shows!

that’s optimistic, 10x

wow that boosted my spirits, thanks jumbo13, did you do anything between december and january that may have helped you? I am a little stuck on what to do next for Tufts.

If it’s any help, know that some kids accepted ED, my daughter, for one, will be doing a GAP year, thus opening up a spot in the class of 2014 (and, also, taking a spot in the class of 2015).

I wish you all luck–this is a very stressful process.

Truth. I’m going to start a new thread and those of you with questions for me on deferrals can catch me in there.
