Got deferred; anybody know what I have to next? how do I show them i am still interested. Also anybody knows what percent of the deferred gets acceptance?
You are not supposed to do anything. The only updates you can send are new SAT or ACT scores or corrections to your existing information (e.g., a change in your senior course schedule). Anything that you might do to demonstrate interest, such as a passionate email or letter to admissions, will not be provided to those who actually decide whether you will be admitted. Deferral is not death. About half those deferred are eventually admitted (and that percentage is higher for engineering applicants), although often the admission will not be to one’s first choice major.
Which engineering major? In state or oos?
@adaorange my son gave Mechanical engineering major, and we are OOS. Any advise?
Along with CS and Bio, Mechanical is one of the other oversubscribed Engineering majors that is very competitive for admissions. Other that making sure you have a couple other target and safety schools, I think all you can do for UIUC is cross your fingers. Unlike many private schools, I don’t believe supplemental materials will make any difference.
@illinoisx3 and @drusba thank you so much for your valuable advise. My son’s first choice is UIUC so we will have to wait and see what happens on March 1st.
