deferred entrance?

Is it possible to accept a university offer, defer my entrance for 1 year, and apply for other universities in the coming September to see if I could get a better university?

An admittance deferral can be granted. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if your documents requesting such stipulate some restrictions… I’m only guessing however.

I see. So are these restrictions specific to universities or are they like the standard ED agreement one signs?

You can do it with no problem, it’s not like an ED contract.

Deferral agreements are specific to individual schools. Some schools may grant them, some may not.

Common data sets will give you the answers to these two questions:

-Does your institution allow students to postpone enrollment after admission?
-If yes, maximum period of postponement:

The vast majority of colleges allow deferrals as a matter of policy, but the typical request is not in order to “get a better university.” I’m sure you realize this, but if you request a deferral, you should phrase the reason for your request as “still undecided about some of my educational goals” or something similarly truthful but ambiguous.
