"Deferred for further evaluation?" BUT...

I've been reading through the forums and found a few similar threads but I was hoping someone could help me out. I applied in October of 2008 for the Fall 09 semester. I've a 3.56 unweighted GPA, and a 4.3 weighted GPA. I got a 1540 on the SAT's (including writing) and sent in my transcripts. I got the "deferred" message and my status was only updated to that after I called and spoke to the admissions office.

What gets me frustrated is that a really good friend of mine applied about two or three weeks ago with lower SAT scores and and a lower GPA and already got accepted... I've been waiting for about three months by now.

My status says the following:
"Your application has undergone an initial review and is currently deferred for further evaluation with the Admissions Committee. A decision may be delayed as we assess the strength of this year's applicant pool.

If you would like to submit additional information or test scores to improve your competitiveness and allow us to make a more immediate decision, please send additional credentials to the UCF Office of Undergraduate Admissions, P O Box 160111, Orlando, FL 32816-0111.

This is your current status. Your status is subject to change at any time depending upon receipt of new information and further review by the Admissions Committee, and may be confirmed in writing via a letter from the Director of Undergraduate Admissions."

I just kinda feel a helpless and a bit frustrated...

Edit: I'm a FL resident...

Hey 87

Same deal. Instate (So Fla), applied in early November, have a U-GPA of aprox 3.5, W-GPA of 4.0 and a combined SAT of 1670, very good ECs with leadership in year round sports, arts and service, f/t job last 3 summers, p/t job this year. Only when I e-mailed asking about status did it change and it reads the same as yours since then (late Dec.)

So I sent my 1st semester grades in Jan - 4As & 2Bs. Still no change in status, though.

Someone posted that in the past, UCF has waited until UF sends out admission info opening up slots for 'borderlines'. I'm still waiting and just thrilled &^%#@

I have heard that if you have signed up to take the ACT or SAT that they sometimes wait until those scores come in to change your status, puls it is better to hang in there and wait for the super brain kids to turn them down and get in like 2 months from now then to get turned down now. And if you want retaking the SAT or the ACT wouldnt hurt, the class of 09 has a lot of very compedititve applcaints.
Good luck

I don't know how you could have got deferred... I mean, I applied early December and heard back around two weeks ago that I got accepted. I only have a ~3.9 weighted GPA and I got a 1380 on my SAT's. It might not be your grades though. I've heard from a lot of people that the grades aren't everything. They're also looking for a lot of extracurricular activities, like community service or a club. For me, this might have been my ticket in, because I have 167 community service hours and I've also been part of many clubs in the school. I go to Pine View School for the Gifted as well, so I never know what really helped me get in. It's just that grades aren't everything.
