I have been deferred from the early response program at UMichigan. I am an International student attending a CBSE curriculum school. I called up the admissions office and they did not tell me the reason for being rejected.

I am someone who really considers UMichigan as her one and only choice.I love the school and I really want to be there. Where as the student part is considered I am in the Top 5-10% of my class. The curriculum I have been taking is one of the most rigorous in the world. My essay's were good according to my teacher's and my family (I told them about myself and about I would like to pull all nighter's at the Shapiro library and describing my characteristics) and the school spirit I have with in me (which Michigan is popular for).

I did not choose Michigan because it is highly ranked for my course by US News but because it fits my requirements and I want to go there. Where as there are many people who go to Michigan just because their precious Ivies reject them.

SO my question, what can I possibly do in order to gain admission in UMich. I cannot send UMich any grades from my school as I have already sent them the most recent grades from my School and the next exam is in March (whose results will be out in July 2010) and where as my SAT score is concerned I have made a leap from 1500 to 1980 and I cannot take the January SAT since I am preparing for my March (board) exams which I cannot possibly screw up as they are very important and tough.

My EC's are very good . I have been a post holder for the past two years (when the post's are actually given out to students). I am the head of two Student organizations and part of the computer club.

Michigan is my dream and I ask you people to help me achieve it. What can I do in order to get in ? Please give me specific information on how to go about this process.

I am sorry for the mix up … I got deferred !

Yes. I am “that” student. I had applied to UMich , UCB , ASU and Auburn university. So far UMich has replied and as far as the SAT score is concerned , I had posted the thread on 11-26-2009 when my SAT score for November 20009 had not yet come out.

Also …

Please don’t mistake me for being a ■■■■■. I am student in need of genuine help.

Well I also was deferred at University of Michigan, it was my top choice and it was horrible but I definately grew interest in other schools and I think you should probably start looking at other schools as well… it will only help, definately will not hurt. So, with University of Michigan… maybe try to set a interview, try wowing them with new test scores, good 7th semester grades, etc… in addition if you haven’t applied elsewhere your setting yourself up for the worst since most deadlines are in Jan. If you truly can not see yourself at any other school than University of Michigan itself then simply have a mindset to transfer, that’s is ( ofcourse) if your not admitted after the deferrel.

But virtually there has to be somewhere else other than University of Michigan you could attend happly with not holding onto UMich, you must ( well might) simply lack knowledge about other schools.

I think she has applied to a few other schools - including AzSt and Auburn - both will accept her.

I agree that she needs to start looking at other schools. She can do what she needs to do to improve her chances, while also assuming that she won’t get accepted so that she can look at other colleges with an open mind.

Now that she has a 1980 SAT, she can look at a few more engineering schools…

^ Agree. I think OP is international, so her best bet is to get excited about ASU and UA which will admit OOS with her stats. Both are good schools with as much spirit as you can imbibe :-)

Seriously, my brother had a blast at ASU and he managed to graduate in four years.
