Deferred from BC?

BC is my absolute favorite school and I received today that I was deferred. I immediately sent a letter of my interest in the school as my top choice. Do deferred applicants likely have a better chance than regular decision applicants?

I have a 3.8 uw, 4.3 w. 1400/1600 on sats. Extracurriculars well rounded, considered great, one of the strongest parts of my app. I’m catholic. White female, live in Massachusetts.

My twin brother got denied but it’s not his favorite school, luckily.

I didn’t put all my eggs in one basket. I have other schools on my list. I’ve gotten into Tulane and been denied by Notre dame.

Do i have a good chance as a rd applicant? And further, do deferred applicants typically fare better in the rd pool?

Should I pay the campus a visit? I do well in person, but I feel like I won’t have access to an admissions office, or even know how to approach the topic of my deferral.

Basically- help me get in. And let me know if you think I have a good chance of getting in.

I’ve seen a lot of conflicting things. I’ve heard some people say deferred applicants have a 20% chance at BC. But in my personal experience, everyone I know who has gotten deferred has gotten in. There were a few last year from my school. So I’m not sure what to think.

Being deferred EA means your application will evaluated in the RA round just like all the other RA applications. And the same holds true for whether you’ll be accepted, waitlisted, or rejected.

I think you have a great shot. Your GPA and test scores are right within the average. In fact, I have a 1400 on the new SAT also (and a 2080 on the old) and I was accepted EA to the morrissey college of arts & sciences. Seeing how similar our stats are I can’t imagine they would deny you RD. Good luck!

@wicked99 I don’t have the same stats as you but I was deferred as well and I understand your pain. I think what you can do is just update your admissions counselor with what you are doing between now and March to maybe further your chance of acceptance? I think you have a good chance of getting in. But BC doesn’t track demonstrated interest according to my counselor so I don’t see the point of visiting but seeing as you are in MA, I would go for it! Good luck!

Good luck.

Thanks you have all been very helpful! How do deferred applicants typically are compared to regular applicants?
And I sent my letter the day I got deferred. Didn’t waste any time there. I expressed that bc is undoubtedly my favorite school. I know they don’t track interest, but that’s gotta help, right?
