Deferred from Early Decision. Now What?

I applied ED to The University of Richmond and prayed that some sort of miracle would take place and I would be admitted.

No such miracle occurred, and I was deferred to regular decision.

I'm really bummed, as U of R was my top choice and I would've killed to get in, even though the odds weren't in my favor. I know that I'm not totally out of the game yet, but my chances are even slimmer than before. My SAT scores weren't superb (math, bleh) but I truly did the best I could. I'm going to take the ACT in February and send that score to them and hope it helps my application (that /is/ a good idea, right?)

Worst case scenario, I don't get in (extremely likely) and don't know where else to go. As well as UR, I applied to Drexel University, George Mason University (I'm a Virginia resident) and will now send off my complete Virginia Tech app. Drexel is expensive and I haven't heard many great things about it (I looked up student reviews after my letter today as I became more interested in attending), the only reasons I applied are because my grandfather went there, I toured the campus, and I love Philadelphia.

I'm planning on majoring in International Business/Affairs/Studies (depends on school) and minoring in a foreign language. If I don't get into Richmond, which school would be best to attend for that: George Mason, Virginia Tech, or Drexel?

I know GMU is close to DC, but I've heard it's campus is a bore.
I don't really prefer VT's location: rural, in the western part of VA.

I've worked hard in high school and have taken a rigorous course load with many APs, and I don't really want that to go to waste by attending a school I could have gotten into with a regular course load. I'm in the top 20% of my class. I'm definitely not Ivy material, but I'd like to go to a school with some prestige.

I'm just really misguided and confused right now. I THOUGHT Drexel was my 2nd choice, but my deferral from UR has caused me to look up its rather poor reviews. Can someone please provide some kind of guidance as to what I should do about my deferral and where I should set my sights on attending for an International degree at a college I'd enjoy?

Oh well, it sounds like you knew you were a long shot and the bright side is that you don’t have a rejection yet. Many colleges say there is equal acceptance rate for deferred candidates as any RD applicant.

Only take SAT again if they accept scores from that date.

How about American University. Great school for your interests. What was your SAT?

1) If you loved Richmond, there are tons of other great LACs out there. One in particular to look at might be Dickinson College which I believe is good for international studies. Maybe also Fordham or Barnard (if you are female although it may be a bit of a reach as well) in NYC both of which have small classes. Look through this list as well. http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-liberal-arts-colleges/page+4</a> 2) No matter where you end up the skills you got from taking a rigorous HS course load will serve you well in the future. Good luck.

Pretty low, but I feel I did the best I could after taking it twice. I went to tutoring for math and it hardly helped. My reading in writing were in the high 600s with math in high 400s, unfortunately. I also took the Literature & US History subject tests with 620 & 740, respectively. SAT wasn’t that great, but I was hoping my extracurriculars, course load, and summer Boys State would balance it out.
