Okay.. I got deferred from Cornell few months ago...
So I am really frustrated :-( I thought it would be the end of my life, but life was not that easy. I still had to send mid-year reportcard which is a disaster.
For the first semester of my senior year, I got THE worst grade EVER in my life...
I kno it will definitely give negaitive affect. Am I going to be denied? .... I raised my SAT score though.....
:-((((((((( And when's their result comin out?

It might impact your chances, depends how low a grade, in what subject, and what major you are and what school you're applying to.

and all ivy decisions are released on 3/31

Depending on how "disastrous" the grades are. If they are like 6 A's and 2 B's, I doubt they'll make any significant difference. It also depends on in what subjects you screwed up.

For example, I took second-year university math course and got a B. I doubt that'll make any significant difference. It also depends on how hard your school marks. The highest average at my school was like... 92% (A average nonetheless; in B.C. 86%~100% = A).

Conversely, would doing great help? My D had 5 AP's and got all A's and A+'s.

^ is that even a question??? of course it will help.

As a matter of fact, yes, it is a real question. I think Cornell might just expect you to have those kinds of grades. They might not help at all.

you said, "would doing great help?"

...
..
.

I was deferred to Cornell SHA... and I want to prove soooo badly that they're my number one. so I have gotten an extra internship at a premium hotel and asked my couselor to write my another letter of rec (she knows how hard I've been trying) I kept my GPA up at a 3.8 for this 1st senior yr sem. and I have updated cornell with my new internship and a short message on how cornell is still my #1! but I want to do more! What can I do?!!

Don't overdo it.

Does that mean I should just wait it out?...
and do nothing?...

^^I think what you've done is fine. Anything more would be overkill.

My grades have been good senior year, first quarter was REALLY good and second quarter was very good (with the same overall average, but with slightly lower grades in some classes).
HOWEVER, my AP Physics midterm went horrifically and I got an 82 even though my first and second quarter averages in that class were 98 and 97... is this going to hurt me? I applied for Human Bio, Health, and Society in HumEc and got deferred.
I worked so hard in all my classes, did wonderfully, and just had to mess up one thing.
Grr^infinity

chandler- CALM DOWN! seriously, you are fine! an 82 is not bad... it's one test. for all they know you could've had extenuating circumstances. and having those A+ first-semester grades can def. justify that.

SVMMom - That's a really conceited question.

ChandlerBing - You're really passionate about Cornell, and I'm sure you will get in. Just keep that fire kindled.

Thanks for that guys, but it's just frustrating to me that I aced the class and fell apart during the midterm (which was my last midterm out of five) due to nervousness/panic, of all things.
But what's done is done and there's only a month and a half left until decisions come out, let's hope Cornell will like me better the second go-around :)

chandler- what other schools did you apply to?

Right now I am just hoping for a Guaranteed Transfer to Cornell. I just got nominated by my counselor for the Major Entrance Scholarship to UBC ($10,000 a year for up to four years). If I get the scholarship, I will complete my first-year at University of British Columbia. I did some calculation, and I can actually get PAID $1000 a year for going to university, after deducting all the tuition and student fee ($9,000 CAD). A pretty sweet deal isn't it?

grantortue- in hindsight, I think I applied slightly stupidly (I didn't apply to any schools that I was 100-150% sure I would get into)
I applied to SUNY Binghamton, SUNY Geneseo, Brandeis, Tufts, Amherst, Williams, Yale, Harvard, Dartmouth, Penn, Duke, and Cornell
I'm seriously bracing myself for a lot of rejection, I think I applied to too many top-notch schools.

Me too, FB lalaland, a GT to Cornell would be wonderful, it would give me a chance to look at other opportunities while knowing that I have Cornell as a viable option in the future.
Let's just be lucky enough to receive one!

GT IS FANTASTIC. it really is. last year I was almost hoping for one because I basically go to this school for free. chandler- those are def. competitive schools, but I think you are safely in at binghamton and geneseo, probably brandeis and tufts. Good luck guys! I'm nervous for all of us! even though a gt is guaranteed, I've been rejected from cornell too many times to not be nervous, lol

You left out Stanford and Pomona.
