Does anybody know what percentage of ED applicants are rejeted or deferred? and what percentage of those deferred end up getting accepted RD?

i don't know the actual stats, but at my info session an admissions officer implied they defer the large majority of ED applicants . he made it sound like they only reject people that clearly fall way below their usual standards, to put them out of their misery since they will ultimatley be rejected anyways.

If you do a search on CC for around the time last year's ED letters arrived (12/15 or so), you'll find the stat for the % of those deferred who eventually get in. I forget what the % is but it is very low.

i looked at posts from around that time and couldnt find anything..

The letter Williams sent to deferred applicants last year said that historically Williams accepts "...15 or 20 ... upon review of deferred candidates." There were several CC'ers deferred ED who later got in RD, but the odds really aren't very good.

so assuming im getting deferred, would it be best to apply ed2 to my second choice or to apply RD and just wait it out and risk not getting into either?

College, only you can answer that question. If you read through posts on CC, you'll find that most advise those deferred (from any school) to move on in their thinking, but if Williams is really your first choice you might want to stick it out til April. Too early to worry so much about this now - wait til Dec 15th!
