Deferred from Fordham

I’m curious to know why I got deferred from Fordham and if there’s anyway to increase my chances of getting in for regular decision.
My stats are:
Weighted GPA: 4.14
SAT Superscore: 2020
AP’s: AP Euro (4), AP USH (4), AP English Language (5), AP Environmental Science (4)
Senior year schedule: AP Physics, AP Government, AP Comparative Government, AP English Literature, Statistics H, Political Science, Economics H, World Religions and an academic elective
Extracurriculars:
President of a service club, Vice President of National Social Studies Honor Society and Vice President of a politics club, Treasurer of another service club, Cross country freshman and sophomore year where I got a varsity letter, member of envi club for four years and former history, NHS, NEHS, Debate Team, over 200 service hours
My recommendations were really good and my essay wasn’t the best but it wasn’t bad, I plan to write a new one though. I’m a bit confused because I know people with lower GPA’s and scores who got in, could anyone help me figure out what I should improve for regular decision?

Nobody here works for admissions and sat in on their discussions, so I don’t think anyone can answer this question.

Don’t be discouraged. This was a very strange year for Fordham decisions. Could have something to do with the fact that it was the first year for ED. Be patient. It is very likely that you will be accepted RD. Don’t give up hope.

Thank you! I needed that haha :slight_smile:

@fordhamfamily :slight_smile:

I’m in the same boat lol, I got deferred with a 32 ACT and 7 Aps (however slightly lower GPA)

I am pretty shocked you got deferred, as I have slightly lower scores and was accepted. I guess the best way to think of it is that the application process is holistic. It’s not only about the grades. The only thing I can think would’ve been the problem is the essay. Do you think it really showed off who you are? Do it convey the message you want to get across to admissions? To make up for my lower scores, I poured my heart and soul into my essay, and I am incredibly passionate about the major I applied for. I am not trying to say your essay is not amazing, or that you don’t have passion, because you definitely do, but maybe try and be a little more clear in your expression. I think another essay is a great idea if you are thinking of writing one. I think you have an amazing shot for regular decision however. If you don’t get the acceptance, Fordham is either having a weird year, or just looking for something else I guess. Don’t be discouraged; you’ve done amazing work and will find the perfect college, Fordham or not.
