Deferred from FSU priority deadline - HELP

I'm a senior and unfortunately, I was deferred from FSU's early action deadline. They said they want to see my first semester senior grades & are giving me a chance to re-take my SAT/ACT - they'll give me their final decision in March. I had an 1160 on the SAT (math: 550, reading: 610) & a composite score of 25 on the ACT (english: 27, math: 25, reading: 24, science: 23) and my high school weighted gpa is 3.74 (FSU recalculates & I'm not sure what my recalculated GPA is for them).
I've signed up to take both the ACT again in Feb. & I'm shooting for at least a 28 (that's what I need for a full Bright Futures scholarship) & my grades for my first semester will most likely be 5 A's and 2 B's.
What are my chances of getting in in March?
Is there anything else I can try and do to improve my chances??
FSU is my dream school & I really don't see myself going anywhere else! :(

I think the best you can do is to do like they said retake your ACT and SAT. make sure your fully prepared for both test so that you will mostly score higher. From what you have said it seems like you should be fine when it comes to your grades. So basically just try to raise your scores. Did you think about appylinf to the CARE program? its a great oppertunity to be admitted to the university

Are you in or out of state?

If you are instate, I think you will eventually get in. Did you apply for fall?

They recalculate your GPA with only core academic classes

So they do

Social studies
English
Foreign languages
math
science

^ I believe that’s right, they don’t do ANY electives unless they are academic related, like no PE or ceramics or anything, so they take the easy 4.0’s off

I definitely think you will get in. I got deferred last december, so I know how much it sucks. I had a slightly better gpa than you, and slightly lower test scores. If you can improve your test scores, that would be great. If not, at least they can see that you are trying and are really concerned. And your semester grades will look good too. I really think you have a great chance.

Good luck! :)

thank you so much
i hope it works!

i’m in-state, applying for fall

I think you should call and ask to be considered for summer. You have a better shot unless you smoke the retake ACT.

Yeah, sunnyflorida is right, but I think since they deferred you for fall 2011 they still have great hope and intentions for accepting you for the semester you applied for. I remember when an admissions officer came to my school she said the reason why they deferr you is bevause they see you have the potential to be a student at FSU, if they thought summer would have been better for you they would have offered you a summer admission instead of deferring you for fall 2011.
