Well I really would love to just get in somewhere! I mean I really didn't expect to get into G'town at all, but I thought I had a good shot at Tulane... But it is what it is!

I have a 3.75 WEIGHTED GPA and a 2100 SAT (610R 740M 750W), and Varsity Lax, and other good ECs with good recs/essay. (from ranked top 10 HS in FL)

Part of me would like to be near the beach, part of me would be up for a change from FL, but if I am near the water I would like an OCEAN with waves.

I enjoy learning and curiosity as well as having fun and meeting people, I am interested in the field of Psychology and Philosophy, but also enjoy the Arts and Film.

I would like to be in a cool city/town as well, with alot to do and a good vibe.

If my memory is right, you need merit or FA right to attend an OOS school? Is that right?

I think I suggested College of Charleston on an earlier thread.

The problem is that there aren’t a lot of “name” schools near beaches with waves that also offer generous aid/merit for your stats. The west coast (near beaches with surf waves) can be awful with merit/aid. With your stats, you might get some help, but not enough to put a good dent in the COA. Merit is usually awarded with Math + CR SAT. Yours is 1350.

I think that at this late of date, you need to remove the beach/waves req’t unless you have an assured way to pay for a school without any aid/merit. I’m concerned that that parameter will leave you with too many unaffordable choices in the spring.

How important is the beach/wave thing? What would you rather have…an acceptance with $$ at a ranked school or an acceptance with $$ at a 3rd/4th tier school near the beach???

Ok ok I don’t really care THAT much about waves, if it means I can’t go to one of the top schools I’d get into…

Disregarding the beach what would you guys recommend me? I don’t necessarily NEED merit aid, but it would help, although my parents have put away enough money to pay.

I would take a look at George Washington University and BU. Both schools have similiar rankings to Tulane and are located in ideal cities (DC and Boston, respectively). I would also consider looking at American in DC or Northeastern in Boston.

-I’m applying to GW, and really am considering it…
-I’d rather have a closed campus with greenery than an open urban one though…
-DC is really fun though, and the GW/Georgetown area is an AWESOME place for college kids!

thanks for the suggestion…
so far my list is as follows.

Tulane-Deferred
Georgetown-Deferred
UF- applied
College of Charleston- applied
University of Colorado- applied
USC- applied
UMiami- applied
UGA- in progress
NYU- in progress
GWU- in progress
Occidental- want to apply

A few of those schools are my mom’s idea, and she really pushed them on me, not so much my interests… I’m really so confused about it all, and am not even sure what I want/ haven’t had the ability to really visit any yet so it’s hard to say how big of a school I want, etc.
