Deferred from GT

Today I was deferred from G Tech, which was crushing. All along I was told I would get in by college peers and my guidance counselor, who is very experienced. GT wasn’t my number one, so it’s not the end of the world, but it did drop my confidence quite a lot for my other acceptance chances… Ultimately I would uke to go to UVA. I still don’t understand…

2130 SAT (710 CR, 690 M, 730 W)
All A’s (4.98 weighted, 4.0 UW)
IB program, all academic courseload
Top 2% of county students
Varsity Captain
All honor societies
Plenty of service and other activities.

Should I be concerned?

Not getting into one school does not mean anything for the others. I was accepted at a school with a 25 percent acceptance rate and waitlisted by one with 50 percent of students getting in. it happens. Dont overanalyze it, with that background youll likely get into a host of other great schools. Plus being defered means you have another shot rd

If you were going for Engineering, your Math SAT may be just short. But, hopefully you’ll get in RD

Last yr when GT went live with the CA, their app #s skyrocketed. I don’t know how many applied, were accepted, but then did not attend. GT was going to be full OOS cost for our son. It was also the only school not to offer our son merit$$. It maybe that lots apply and are accepted, but can’t afford to attend. Since the presidential scholarship Is automatically considered, many probably apply with those aspirations (like our son). You should look and see how many deferred were later accepted last yr.

Fwiw, I agree that it was probably your math score that led to the deferral.

Did you apply to any non-competitive schoolS?

It’s probably because your SAT Math score sucks. I think you have a good shot for RD though.

SAT average was 1488/2196. Admitted applicants also took 9.9 AP/IB/DE course. Georgia Tech isn’t as easy to get into as you think, despite a 45% acceptance rate early round

Yeah I applied to FSU (accepted) and UF, which I’m positive I’ll get an acceptance. I agree my SAT math may be a big vice, but nearly everyone going to GT is doing engineering, and I am easily within the SAT mid 50% range. I had another friend with a 35 ACT and a 2350 SAT get flat out denied.

Anyways, thanks for the feedback. Hopefully I get in RD
