Hey guys, so I got deferred from Northeastern University with pretty low stats considering the pool of those admitted and also deferred. NEU is one of my top schools, even though it might be expensive since I don’t think I’ll qualify for much merit scholarship, nor probably get in.
Hispanic Female - PA
Major- Undeclared - leaning towards biology
GPA UW 3.4 W 4.28
SAT 1250 (superscored) 1230 not
ECs are pretty good, planning on sending an update letter of new accomplishments.
Is there anyway I can make my already low chances of getting in, better??
Should I write a letter of continued interest?? Call??
Need some feedback?!
Thanks
I’d strongly advise retaking the SAT or trying the ACT- aim for, at the very least, a 1400/32
I agree. 1400 is the goal min.
You can also transfer into NE sophomore year. The requirements are lower. NE has been accused to playing the stat game by only accepting high stat kids into the freshman fall semester. It opens up more later on.
Good luck.
@MassDaD68 the number of transfer students admitted has actually been declining in recent years:

From 656 in 2017 to 412 in 2017.
@Liloesq @MassDaD68 @TomSrOfBoston I was thinking of that, but the March 10th SAT seemed too close to the decision notification in mid-march, will they have made their decision by that date?? Or is it still worth taking?
My son has about the same stats as yours but applied to a different major and was also deferred . If you have time to take the sat/act do it if not a letter expressing your interest in Northeastern and updating them on extracurricular activities should help.
@collegemom38
Thanks for the feedback, was definitely planning on writing a continued letter of interest.
I don’t think the March SAT being so close to the decision notification will help if I submit a better score, given decisions are mostly already made by then.
