Since REA decisions just came out and 800 of us got deferred, I thought that it was about time to make this thread. Does anyone know what the next steps are for us? Also is there an acceptance rate based only on the people who were deferred from last year? I guess I don’t really know how to strengthen my application too much more…oh well. Everything happens for a reason right?
Join the club. Being deferred was a let down but hey, we’re still in the running! Stats on previous years’ deferred students would be really insightful for us deferred 2020 students.
Hey guys! Yay, finally a forum for us haha. I spoke to my counselor today and she said that a big reason why I was deferred was that I applied to Mendoza, and that they are extremely selective REA. So if you applied to Mendoza and were deferred, it seems like not many people got in in the first place.
Best of luck to everyone as the year progresses, I know I can hardly wait for April 1 already!
@evenRounded14 did you just call/email your counselor and straight up ask why you were deferred? I also applied to Mendoza and would like to know if that is the reason or not
Does anyone know any specific numbers? Number of applicants accepted, deferred, denied?
@looking4ward My school’s college counselor called ND’s regional admissions officer Mary Goodman, and that’s what she said. My college counselor was surprised that I did not get in REA, as two kids from my school with almost the same credentials, so she called Mary basically for her own sake two, making sure that she hadn’t overlooked anything.
Mary also had said apparently that she expects us to contact her to show that we are still interested. I’m going to be sending an email to her saying, essentially “I’m disappointed that I didn’t make it in yet, but I’m very excited to be still in the running to be admitted. I hope my application is taken into heavy consideration.” or something like that. I would recommend sending something like that for all the other people deferred.
Yeah I think that is a smart idea. As for specific numbers, from what I found 1440 were accepted and 800 deferred out of the 4700 applicants who applied REA this year
I would like to know how many people who got deferred last year got in RD
@looking4ward just curious, where are you getting your numbers?
was in this place two years ago and now a sophomore, I know there are statistics somewhere online but my google-fu is failing me… if people want to search there is definitely a website that has acceptance rates somewhere. if memory serves me right, I want to say it was pretty low, however.
here’s an article about what to do if you’ve been deferred: http://admissions.nd.edu/connect/news/55792-advice-to-the-deferred/
Best of luck everyone!
@rocks2020 this is where I got my information http://enrollmentdivision.nd.edu/news/54883-notre-dame-admits-1-400-early-action-applicants-to-the-class-of-2019/
Actually that is last year’s results…Sorry guys, my mistake!
Hey guys! I am sorry to hear that so many were deferred, but remember that it is not a bad thing (the only down side is you have to wait longer, which I know is a pain). The main thing is to make sure your grades stay up (or improve them if possible). It is also VERY important to email your regional admissions counselor expressing how ND is still your top choice and talk a little about why you still really want to go there. Lastly, if you win any awards, get a new job/leadership position, or have anything else happen that would look good on a college app, be sure to email your counselor with the update. Also, I was accepted REA so if you would like any more advice/help feel free to direct message me. Good luck and try not to stress too much!
I, too, have been deferred.
Being deferred has oddly only made me want to be accepted that much more.
And now we wait.
