Deferred from SMU

Meadows/journalism…yeah, it may be a factor. Engineering would probably be better.

i applied as a linguistics major. i would like to double major if i go to smu and move into the b school, but i didn’t put that on my application. i know cox is really competitive and to be honest my test scores aren’t the best. actually, i’m pretty sure my test scores are the reason i was waitlisted. which schools do you think are the most competitive? do you think certain programs will pull more students off the waitlist than others?

business-finance. maxx what did the email say?

It was an email from my region’s admissions recruiter.

It was a reply to an email I had sent inquiring why I was waitlisted. Even though they had already called me to discuss that. I’m guessing they were in a hurry to send it out, they just replied to my old message.

has anyone heard anything since may 1? i was just wondering <3

@teddy…nope, still waiting. Although Maxxx heard by email, I wonder if that’s the norm or if it was just because he had emailed them. will post if any news.

I got off the wait list about two weeks ago after visiting the school for the first time (I’m from New England) and meeting with assistant director of admissions in my region that I had a phone interview with. Hope this helps the rest of you trying to get off. I was notified by email by the woman I met with then received packet couple days after. Good luck!

A friend of mine is currently waitlisted at SMU, and he wants in so bad! Here is what he received from his admissions counselor just a few days ago: “Unfortunately, at this time we are basically at a standstill as far as additional waitlist offers. We had an amazing showing in deposits since May 1st and we are waiting to see how things pan out over the summer. There is always the possibility we could go to the waitlist later this summer, but at this point we are not making any additional offers.” I really want my friend to get in, but it’s not looking so good right now. Besides, he has no idea how high or low he is on the list.

vanadium did your friend write an email to find out from his counselor or was that in a letter? just wondering… <3

He wrote an email.

did everyone get the letter about the second waitlist?

My friend got a letter yesterday, and I’m wondering if it’s the same thing you got Teddy. It told him “you’re accepted, but…” they don’t have room for him right now, so be patient, no guarantees, but we’ll see how the summer plays out. Just know that we do want you. I didn’t read his letter, I just found out about it from seeing it on his fb page. Was that the essence of your letter too?

yeah  i wonder if the whole waitlist was mailed that letter then? eh, this is annoying.

teddyvoughn, does SMU even have a linguistics department? I didn’t know you could major in linguistics there.

well no, i applied as a foreign languages and literature major. for a while i thought i would switch into the b school, but i know better. i’m not a business person and i never will be so i’ll just switch to what i do best. if i went to smu i would either double major (they have concentrations in one major so i’m not sure how that works?) in russian and spanish or possibly triple major and add on french. i’ve changed my mind about what i’m doing in college so many times this year. sorry to be fickle. :/
