Deferred from Tulane-Tufts Syndrome

I just opened up my Tulane account to find out that I was deferred, which is a huge surprise to me. I have a 2400 SAT, have taken/am planning on taking 15 AP classes and 2 college classes, am 6/506 in my high school, and have gotten straight As. Plus, I am president of three clubs and have two jobs, and I worked very hard on both my Common App and Why Tulane essays.

Does anyone have any idea why this could have happened? My friend suggested something to me called Tufts Syndrome, where schools reject “overqualified” applicants/applicants that have not demonstrated sufficient interest. Do you think this is what happened to me?

Yes. This has been extensively discussed in at least two other threads on this forum, but that is exactly what happened.

i also applied to tulane but still haven’t received a decision. i was wondering if you could help me out and tell me if you got an email saying that you were deferred? i haven’t received anything but in gibson it now says that i’ll get my decision by april 1…

Glad to hear that. Thanks!

I didn’t get an email either. The way I found out was by checking Gibson, which contained a message reading “You have been deferred and will get your decision by April 1st” or something like that. So I would assume that you were deferred, although I’m not entirely sure.

@fallenchemist could you link me to those threads?

@Elainekm mine doesn’t say i’ve been deferred though… it just has the normal message for before you get your decision except the date now says april 1 instead of dec 15

Hmm that’s weird. Are you sure you applied early?

@Elainekm yeah, when i emailed the admissions counselor, he said that it’d be reviewed in the EA pool and it also says EA in common app

Deferred or rejected don’t count against yield so I agree they just don’t believe you would enroll if accepted.

I see you found the other discussions on this topic so closing this.
