Deferred from Tulane

I have pretty good stats but i was still deferred from Tulane. Is that because i didn’t show much interest in the school? Also, what do your deferred letters look like? Are they all the same? Thank you.

I got a deferral with a 1500 SAT, 33 ACT, and a 4.95 weighted gap as well as jobs throughout high school and 2 variety sports. I think it might be the interest thing, or it could be a strong applicant pool, or maybe both

If you really want to go to Tulane show interest now! Let your admissions rep know that it is your top choice and that if you are accepted you will attend. Tulane wants students who pick Tulane and don’t want those who think it is a safety school.

I showed a ton of interest, did everything I could to let Tulane know that it was my number one (I applied ED), and was accepted to the Spring Scholars program with stats way lower than yours (slightly lower GPA, MUCH lower test scores). College is confusing.

I’m a student at Tulane right now and according to my friends working as admission interns, now is the time to really show interest in Tulane. Tulane wants students that love Tulane and will stay at Tulane. Don’t be discouraged when deferred! You definitely still have a chance! My suggestion would be show interest, not just in the form of a letter of intent. Email with questions about the programs at Tulane you are interested in. If you have the finances to do so, visit the school and talk with the admission counselors. If not, call the admission counselors. For the past 2 years, Tulane has admitted very few students off the waitlist so don’t wait until there’s little chance left.
One more time for emphasis, show interest! Tulane is one of those schools that highly values this. Good luck!

Did they mention in your deferred mails the reasons why they defer your application? Or you have to mail them to ask?

I was deferred from Tulane and I have scheduled a visit next week, Is there anything specific that I can do on the visit to show my interest specifically?

Be sure to meet with your admissions rep and let them know that Tulane is your top choice! Good luck!

I showed tons of interest and did EVERYTHING Tulane told me to do. I applied ED, went to one of the College Presenations, spoke to my admissions rep several times and the admissions director. Sent several touchbase msgs expressing my desire to attend. I got deferred. 3 others I know got accepted w/ lower scores, lower grades and who didn’t even visit. I don’t understand the college process. I think it truly is random and luck of the draw.

@glaze0430 It sounds like you did everything from your side. I wish you the best of luck, but make sure you have a second choice that will work for you.
