Deferred from UoP...chances?

Just got this message today:

Thank you for your application to University of the Pacific. After careful consideration of your application and supporting documents, it is the Admission Committee's decision to defer final action on your application until our regular review period in the spring.

We believe that with additional information we will be able to assess more accurately your academic talent and potential for success at Pacific. Please request that your guidance counselor send to the Office of Admission a transcript reflecting your complete Fall 2012 semester/quarter grades, if you have not already done so.

You will be notified of the admission committee's decision no later than April 1, 2013.

Unfortunately, my senior grades didn't improve too much. I'm at about 3.65 weighted and 3.5 unweighted. I got a 28 on the ACT. I do a ton of extra curricular however. Am I destined to fall? Is a deferral an a denial?

What is your intended major? Did you apply early decision? When did you submit your application?

Deferral can mean denial, but I have heard it doesn’t always mean denial.

My son received the same letter. He applied for the pre-dental. I think that you had applied for pre-pharm.

I think that a deferral at this stage is normal for the “pre-programs…dental, pharm, or law.” These decisions normally do not go out until March, whereas the rest go out on a rolling basis.

Just concentrate on your finals coming up and do your best to get good grades for the semester. Then submit the transcript and wait. Have faith!

I also applied to UOP for pre-dental and got an email yesterday saying I was deferred. If they do accept me, will it be for the pre-dental program, or will it just be for the regular undergrad programs?
